bike conking out while riding

Twice now I've had my bike essentially just turn off while riding. Today it acted as if it had run out of gas even though there was about a 1/4 tank left. Has anyone else had this issue?

The bike is a 94 and is pretty much stock. I'm wondering if I have a fuel flow problem. Initially it didn't want to start again, but I put the choke on full (even though the bike was well warmed up) and it started reluctantly. It ran fine after that.

I have a friend who had similar issues with his 1100 or 1200 ?.... turned out he was low on Oil ! Added oil....Problem went away ! Also, clutch often gets grabby when low on oil.

ignition switch sounds like to me.. if it is just shutting off then that is the place I would look.. and then go to your safty switches (clutch, nutral and kickstand switch).. check and clean all of your ground points thruout the bike.

Does sound a lot like POOGS -the thread Ratt's pointing you to is a really nice write-up with very clear instructions on how to clean the vent hose and cap. Good idea to go through those steps. It could also be a gummed up carb, though. When was the last time you cleaned 'em?

Have you tried switching to reserve when it happens? Does it behave differently in reserve?

Exactly what I'm thinking. Make sure the vent hose that goes into the right ear is actually there and is not bottomed out or kinked.
