any experience selling bikes through Ebay?

I listed my 91 vn750 on ebay more just to see if anybody would even bid on it. I set the reserve higher than I expected anybody to pay... My mistake. Now I am just worried that somehow I am going to get ripped off. Nigerian prince, overseas check, etc. etc. Anybody have any experience selling a bike on ebay? I almost feel like this is too good to be true, I only paid 700 for the bike and have only had to do maint. and remove an old O ring to get it in shape for riding.

Don't believe it. If it's a Nigerian Prince he can afford something bigger and newer. No offense intended but if you were a prince would you be looking at 20 year old bikes???

As an after thought, he will probably want to send you a check and have you deposit it, then send him your bank info so he can wire you the rest of the money. If you do that then your account will get cleaned out. If you get a check, odds are it will bounce like a ping pong ball.

Good Luck

I would have offered local pick up only and put in your description that those bidders with zero feedback will be rejected unless contacting you first.

Look at the bid statistics of the winner, really fishy, 121 bids all in e-bay motors over past 30 days and no wins?!?, or at least no feedback. I would simply wait the 48 hours until you don't receive payment, which I imagine you won't, then you could give the 2nd highest bidder, looks like $1,500 a second chance offer to take it if you are willing to sell it at that price.

That's what I would do.

Read E-bays rules for sales involving houses, automobiles, and motorcycles and you will learn that the sale is not a binding contract like other sales on ebay often are. They actually state that listing a house or automobile is just a way for you to make "contacts" with people interested in your item. Kinda had me worried when I recently sold a Cutlass SS on there, but the guy that bought it was stand up and showed up with cash in hand to pay for the car. As someone already warned you, do NOT give out your bank information to get paid and make sure the check clears even if it is a cashiers check because those can be forged as well. Good luck with your sale.

I've bought and sold bikes on eBay. Local pick up only. Get a deposit by paypal at the close of the auction (10% or a couple hundred bucks). Get the rest in cash when the buyer makes the pick up. Fill out a bill of sale at pick up. Sign the title. Count your money!

First (hopefully last) time in the shop:
Carb rebuild • New brakes front and back • New radiator fan
I've done:
Spline Lube • New (used - non-leaky) Gas Tank • New Fork Seals • New Pirelli tires • New Yuasa Maintenance Free Battery
Fresh Dexcool coolant • Upgraded Shunt-type R/R (Relocated) • Headlight Bypass • Stator tested - PASSED
Clutch Swap - EBC Street Racer Frictions with new eBayed steels • ACCT to MCCT conversion

I've sold a few cars before but never a bike. The transactions went very well, payment was on time and pickup was arranged and the peoples third party pick-up kept good communication with me the entire time. Granted this all happened over 3 years ago and maybe times have changed in the eBay world. I'd give it a shot but as shark88 said, warn the bidders if they have no feedback their bid will be rejected unless they contact you first.
