Any Ideas?

Hey Guys, im looking to do an over hual on my bike this winter. Im mostly looking for some ideas and some useful information that i can start researching into now. So far ive painted it black, but it is getting repainted again, took the goat belly out, floor boards, and rear luggage rack. What im looking for is info on foward controls (cheap ones???), putting a set of strait bars (raised) painting the engine (is it worth it?) and light relocation. im redoing the seat, and im putting a sport fairing on it if it helps with ideas.

my only main concern is the handle bars. I notice how they atatched them to the trees and i wanted to know if i could put a set on like these?

You should be able to get a drag bar that will fit (don't think the one in the pic will without significant mods). Risers would lift it if needed.

Knifemaker has a lot of mods, including tail light relocation bracket, linked in his sig.

Whether or not painting the engine is worth it, is a question only you can answer! Would require an engine pull to do it right. And that opens up other alternatives, like stator, shift rod, valve seals, and balance damper replacement.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Kool, ill check it out. and i know it would require an engine pull out, the only reason im thinkin of it is i HAVE to replace the altenator and i figured since the bike will b mostly taken apart ill do the engine. also what do u mean "alternitives"? like replacement for preformance?

The "alternatives" that fc mentions are advised maintenance for any older vn750 that should be done if the engine is coming out for any reason. You say you are already planning on replacing the alternator (stator). If your bike is a `92 or earlier, the wimpy tranny tie rod between the shift lever shaft and the change lever shaft should be changed out for Ma Kawi`s heavy duty replacement used on all vn750`s from `93 onward.

The valve seals and rubber/plastic balancer dampers should be replaced too, while the engine is out.

If you aren't doing a stator replacement, there is no need to replace the shift linkage until it breaks. But that assumes it will break in a convenient location and time! Ditto on the balancer replacement. But definitely do both if you do an engine pull.

X2 to fc`s post. I have a `91 with about 13K miles on it. I don`t plan on pulling the engine for any preventative maintenance before I have problems. I will however change the balancer dampers, seals and tie-rod if I ever have to pull the engine for the stator or any other reason.

This may give you some Ideas ,this was my 750,I rode a couple of years.

Pretty much what you are describing.I managed to paint my engine without pulling it,but I had it down to frame and motor, pretty much.I went with a set of dirt track bars that are not completely flat but had very little rise and didn't have to use risers.Just a few idea's on there that you can look at before you make the leap and you can see if you like the way it looks beforehand.

There are more pictures in my albums on my profile page if you want to see more.

If you see it on my bike I did it
