I would be curious to see the revenue from fines for no motorcycle endorsement or insurance. Looks like a smoke screen to raise revenue. I call BS.

Just exactly what are they looking for at these "checkpoints"? Will we have to produce our "papers"? If so and if they will be stopping us without cause, wouldn't this be in violation of the 4th Amendment? I'm guessing the ACLU doesn't ride bikes.

OMFG... you guys are nuts... 5 Police departments a crossed the US get a grant to help set up motorcycle safety awareness research. Yes they are trying to help us keep our rights... but I feel that most laws are put into place for our safety. I feel every motorcycle rider whether they rid on the road or off, need to take a MSF Certified course, and get Licensed. All bikes should be titled and registered and be able to pass a general Safety inspection (i.e. Headlight, Brake Light, Tail light at least on mirror and be in general safe riding condition as a bare minimum... no exhaust or pollution crap in the inspections.) Helmets should be required in every state, and ALL helmets must mete DOT specs. Novelty helmets either need to Meet the DOT specs, or you get fined for using them.

One thing I do not see the AMA doing is hosting Bike events aimed at the non riding community to help make the streets safer for us riders. If ALL drivers (regardless if it is a cage or a motorcycle) should be made to go through a defensive driving course, where motorcycle awareness is a 4 to 8 hour block of instruction utilizing Motorcycle Simulators to help educate the general population of what it is like on the roads for us.

If we as Law abiding citizens would fallow the laws then this grant wouldn't be needed any ways.

Yes I realize they are targeting us, but they are doing it for a good reason... to help spread Motorcycle awareness, and to also find out why there has been an increase in Motorcycle related Fatalities in the past decade.

I think helmets should be up to the rider and if they are gonna MAKE people take the motorcycle safety class THEY need to be payin for it or drop the price.

Because I used my own bike in the basic MSF course, it cost me $25; would have been $100 to use one of theirs. Since I felt it would benefit me by teaching skills that would make me a better, safer, rider, I thought it was very reasonable. The Hurt Report shows that those who are self taught or taught by a friend/relative are in the group more likely to have an accident.

I think folks should be able to choose whether they want to wear a helmet or not, IF they will agree to sign a "Do Not Resuscitate" form or be kept on life support at public expense. I don't want to have to pay for the consequences of someone else's decision.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

The MSF courses around here are 180 to 200 bucks and there is no option to ride your own bike in the ones i have looked into and since they make it mandatory in order to get a motorcycle endorsement I ride WITHOUT being "legal". With all the wifes medical bills and all the car problems we have been having for the last few years, i cant afford to shell out 200 bucks for the class, but when we get a little more stable i do plan on taking it.
