well gotta take the exhaust off

this is how bad maine sucks. they just revised a law about motor vehicle exhaust so that all motor vehicles have to be stock or equivalent to stock. so much of the 350 is spent on those vance & hines.

Hey hoh woh. Don't take it off! I live here in Maine and have loud pipes and as long as you ride sensable in town or when PO are present they don't bother you. Our bikes are NOT as obnoxiuosly loud as H-Ds or other bigger bikes with open pipes so chill dude and ride easy when in town and open her up out on the open road.

That law mostly pertains to cars and trucks. The UBM will take care of us.

Washington State has the same law but you don't get hassled unless you bring it on. I have known of HD bikers that get pulled over for a moving violation then the cop can check for stock pipes. Changing your exhaust is not a primary offense - meaning you won't get pulled over for a loud bike.

$300 isn't too bad, think of the crotch rocket types that spend $1200 on carbon fiber crap!

BTW, cops only need to look at the EPA # on the muffler and cross check on their computer with model of bike to issue the ticket. In other words, I have stock HD mufflers on my VN. They are quiet and meet the EPA noise level but the #'s don't match with the data base for VN750's so I could get a ticket.

It's pretty much the law in every state, since the EPA regulations nehind it are federal, not state level. It comes down to whether or not your state does inspections, and whether your bike will pass with the non-stock pipes on. Remember, the only *legal* exhaust MUST have an EPA stamp on it for street bikes.

Naw! Dont take em off

I got Vance and Hines on my 06 750 and it sounds great. When I heard about that law or whatever it is being passed, went to my buddy the state patrol, and this is what he said.
If you are setting on Rt 1 at a light and revving the darn thing, they will bag you. If you are running straight pipes, they will bag you. Just cruising, they will leave you alone. It is up to the individual officers discrection to pull over anyone who they think the pipes are "over the limit". He came over and listened to mine, said, "No problem"

True story. When I took my 93' with the Jardine pipes to get its 1st inspection
with the pipes the guy (younger then me) said "Those pipes aren't factory and sound loud". He had me start it up and then went to get the owner. The owner came out had me rev it up a couple times, said "sounds good!" and said to the guy "It aint no louder then you [email protected] Harley! Pass it." Nuff said. I got the inspection and no problems ever.

In my area there are the Wild Hogs which is a 60 members strong chapter of state, county, and local police officers and most of their bikes are much louder then our 750s could ever be, even with no exaust and just the head pipes.

The UBM (United Bikers of Maine) is the group made up of bikers all across the state of Maine that keeps things good for anyone that owns a bike and they fight anything that infringes on our rights as motorcycle enthusiests. They have kept the hellmet law to, "past the age of 16 and after the first year of getting your liscence, its your choice to wear one or not". They fund a LOT of charity rides and grease the wheels of the government so the state reps don't want to piss them off. lol

As I said before as long as you are riding normal and not giving it all its got in town or a populated area with PO around you will be fine. Hell our former govoner Angus King had a loud ass H-D. lol
