One of our own was hit head on saturday

I just wanted to let the Family know that Dave "Wileysden" was hit head on in a low speed accident. The funeral will be held on wednsday at his place for the fender and forks. I said a low speed accident, but thanks for caring. He's O.K a little banged up possible broken hand/wrist at least the thumb. Some bruising on the elbow and forearm and chest as he was going over and hit the Plexistar 2 windshield.

From the pics the bike faired well, looks like the forks and fender took the most impact. Looks like the forks I have with polished lowers will be going on his bike for now untill we can get replacements for his. I will try to get his bike and hid him ready for the Atlanta Ride for Kids next sunday. The bike is no problem but the hand/arm I have no spare parts, I guess I will have to wing it.

I will let him give the details of what transpired, if anyboby has a spare hand/forearm combo let us know, he has to ride for the Kids with Cancer.

Be carefull folks, there are alot of idiots out there and more than usual this weekend. I would hate to see this memorial day weekend to be about one of us!!

STAY ALLERT and RIDE SAFE!!!!

had me worried with that first line. Glad to know he will be ok. After what you did for my bike, I know his bike will be healed well before his hand is better. my condolences for the loss of the beloved wheel and fork.

Now that the riding season is opened up for a lot of us, unfortunately (but I hope not) there will be more messages like this. So many people out there in cages messing with radios, doing make-up and hair, in a hurry to get nowhere, talking on cell phones, and stupidly texting makes us 2 wheelers a moving taget. They don't realize how many near misses they have until they go off the road or even worse head on someone. I hope the hand and bike heal fast so he can get back to riding soon.

On the VRA national forum we have had 2 of these horrible messages. One fella did a rookie mistake by going into a corner a bit too fast and fixated on where he was headed instead of manuvering out of it and went 30 ft down an embankment and got banged up pretty bad. His trusty bike fortunately stopped him from going any further. He is on the mend with physical therapy and soon will be riding again but the bike was totalled. He said what a dedicated biker would and said he was ready for a new bike anyways. The other guy was hit in the rear by the saddle bags. It did more damage to the bike then him fortunately.

Everyone ride safe and stay alert. There are tons of sheetmetal out there. Have a safe and happy memorial day.

Satute to out troops past and present!

I have a wheel, a fork set, a brake set, a fender and two left hands but no right ones. Additionally, I should warn him that the left hands are entirely composed of thumbs unless treated with liberal amounts of coffee.

More seriously, I'm very sorry to hear about this but glad he wasn't more seriously injured.

Get well soon!

I would like to add to Ron's information as I also spoke with Dave yesterday after the accident. Thankfully hours after he was his same humorous self, a little beat up, banged up and bruised, but made sure to mention he was drinking a nice cold bottle of "feel good juice". It was nice to know he was ok and still able to drink a beer shortly after the accident lol.

Let's see.. left hand/wrist combo he could try shifting without the clutch..
Right hand/wrist combo a throttle rocker might compensate for the throttle grip but the braking might be tricky unless he beefs up the rear brakes.. maybe a tether line he could pull with his teeth could work the brake lever..
Seriously though.. I'm glad we are even able to explore the options rather then send our condolences.

Let's be careful out there people and be alert. We like all the lerts we have!
