whats a turn signal ?

It is what stupid people have no Idea they have in their car when they cross centerline to the left completely like they are pulling into a parking lot on the left side and then suddenly turn right back across the road in front of you as you are locking down both brakes in full panic mode and then they stop and say "you almost hit us"at a full stop sitting in the road across both lanes at which point I tell them don' worry if you will get out of the way I'll let you finish your u-turn if you promise not to try to kill any one else ,and have your signal lights checked ,they don't work.Believe it or not she turns them on and says they are working. At which point I said try them before you turn next time. All I got was a dumb look and she backs up so I can get out of her way. I think this is the first time I almost hit someone in the passenger side while following them.Closest call I have had in a while.

That's the one thing I hate most .... people who don't signal a turn.
It's even worse when they don't go even 1 mph over the speed limit, but then make a turn w/o signaling??!!
WTF.... USE YOU SIGNALS!!!!

Glad you were able to keep control of the bike from hitting the car and yourself from hitting the idiotic driver!!

You know I don't know if I was too scared or too amazed that people could be so dumb.

I've just come to assume that, when I'm on the bike, every person driving a car is an absolute idiot and I expect them to do stupid stuff like that. Makes it a lot easier for me to watch out for it and be aware when I am already "expecting" them to do stupid stuff...

1990 VN750
Got it on 9/10/09
7683 original miles when I got it
7870 current (constantly adding more)

Many more to come...

I wish cagers could understand one thing: if and when a cage and a bike collide, several possible things can happen. Best and worst cases respectively: the cager will have to have a ding banged out of their car. The biker on the other hand now has a family that has to attend a funeral. There goes a brother, husband, son, father, whatever else all on account of said cagers presumed entitlement. Granted its not that grave every time but I think cagers should take their feelings of entitlement and change them into the assumption that if you hit a biker, you end his or her life. I think they might be a little more aware of the possible consequences and definitley more aware of the presence of bikers.

I don't know that it's even a *cager* sense of entitlement so much as it is an *individual* sense of entitlement. For a steadily increasing percentage of the population, "it's all about me" isn't a joke, it's a way of life. That exploding population doesn't take the time or the effort to consider what impact their actions have on the world around them, since in their mind the world around them simply doesn't matter (a dangerous attitude to have when one is operating at least 4,000 pounds of machinery). Since the percentage of people on the road who fall into this category is relatively large and growing larger daily, about the only defense you have is to simply adopt a paraphrase of Murphy's Law and realize that if a cager *can* do something stupid, they *will* do something stupid, and at the worst possible moment.

It is time to mount one of Captain Kirk`s phasers, and set it on "vaporize" to clear the road of idiot drivers.
