I had a brand new '86 454, and don't remember it having self canceling turn signals. I'm sure that if it did have, I would have disabled them, and I don't remember doing that. Jerry.

Must have been something they added for the '87 model year. I have owned a few bikes with self canceling turn signals, mostly Yamahas. They never worked for me. Usually they canceled too soon, then you had to turn them back on, then they wouldn't cancel for some time after you completed the turn. I like to have things like that under my own control. Being totally "in control" of the bike is a large part of what appeals to me about riding. Jerry.

The self canceling system on the 454 and 85'-88' vn7XX is the same. The canceling operation is calculated by how many feet/meters you have traveled. There are sensors in the speedometer that trigger the reset at a predetermined distance. If you set signal around 100-150 ft before the turn they will work just fine, any more than that they will reset before you turn.
