question:tranny cover/oilsight glass

last year when I replaced my stator I forgot to run the wires through the clamp on the sight glass cover. so I figured no biggie I'll just take that one bolt out run the wire and replace the bolt. well that one bolt gave me a slight oil leak there.
I just got my gasket in the mail today from cheapcycleparts and was wondering if anyone has replaced theirs. looks like it should come off of there without having to lift the motor up or down, does anyone know for sure if it will come off and bypass the frame okay or are there any internal parts that will not make this that easy. thanks in advance!

I would just torque the bolt to specs, and give it a little time, and see if the leak stops. Also check the torque of all the bolts in the area of the leak. Jerry.

How bad is the oil leak? is it just slight seepage, or an actual drip? I had a slight oil leak from what I thought was the oil drain plug for 3,000 miles, it was not enough to affect the oil level, I just stuck a piece of paper shop towel under it to absorb the oil. When I changed the oil, I replaced the o-ring, and it still leaked. That's when I discovered it was not from the oil drain at all, but from where the stator wires come through the case cover. It was running down the engine, and dripping off the oil drain plug. I have not addressed this yet, I just stuck a piece of paper towel under the stator wires to absorb the oil, and will leave it that way for now. I am certainly not going to pull the engine to remove that cover to replace the grommet, or whatever is in there, for such a tiny leak. I have owned a lot of old cars with an oil leak at the front main seal. I just let them leak. Replacing the front main seal requires removing and disassembling the engine, and unless it is a major leak, it just isn't worth it. If for some reason you try to remove that cover, and can't get it off, then you will have no choice but to pull the engine, as you will likely have made the leak a lot worse by loosening the other bolts. Jerry.

thats what im starting to think as well. fired it up today, been sitting since november. turned it to prime, choked it and it fired right up, died a couple times but two or three tries she stayed going and did not smoke at all which I thought it would. new tire coming wednesday.
as far as the leak it is not bad enough that I have to keep putting oil in it but just enough to make the bottom half of the engine and around it a little messy which drives me nuts, I like a clean machine and if I wanted an oil leaker I'd bought a harley. gonna go ahead and do the oil change though and ride and just keep my eye on it for now to see if it gets any worse if it does I'll address it then
