speedo cable

last week my speedo stopped working for about a 1/2 mile then it started working again. today it quit again and did not start working this time. do you think it might be toast or could it maybe just be lubed up or something? it does have 35,000 miles on it.

It could be your cable or more likely your meter gear assembly on your front wheel. Mine went out right at 20k. My speedometer started bouncing around and then became weaker until it just quit. Turns out that the meter gears were worn out but the cable was still good. Lubed up the cable and found a used meter gear with 7k on it for $25 bucks (incl shipping) on feeBay and replaced it (front wheel has to come off, good time to check those bearings though!). If the meter gear turns out to be the problem, trust me, don't try to rebuild it or anything...just replace it.

Hopefully it's just your cable...definately a cheaper and easier fix!

Might still be worth check'n out though. If it goes out in the middle of a long ride, like mine did, it sucks to travel without a speedo.

By the way....Love your bike's name! Best one I've seen!
