I think the cheapest way I have seen mentioned was on the VROC forum. Someone got 2 fake sheepskin carwash mitts from Wally World and unpicked the seams so it would lay flat and sewed them together. I don`t recall all the details.

I have seen several mentions of the Airhawk seat pad being very good, but prices run about ~$100.
Here is a site I found about a year ago that I am interested in trying: www.buttbuffer.com

I know several folks that swear by the beads. They bought a beaded seat cover from Wal-mart and modified it to fit their bike seat.

Many think the sheepskin pads are useless unless you already have a comfortable seat....

I make my own out of foam, synthetic lambs wool and fake leather..made a nice change on long trips but really was not any more comfy than with out it.

Gel seats are nice, a bit pricey, and they suck if left in the sun as they retain heat a long time.

So, go with beads or spend the money to have your seat redone..

Hey redneck, help me out here please. Is the Harley Heritage seat you refer to, off of a Softail Heritage model?
Or are there other models with the name Heritage affixed to them beside the Softail?

I've done the sheepskin bit, and I think the trick is to ride the regular seat till you begin to be uncomfortable and then use the sheepskin, or even vise versa... Anyway whichever way you go (sheepskin or beads) about 1/2 & 1/2 with the Std. seat...
My last vn750 had the Corbin seat which was pretty good, (better than stock) but nothing to write home about...

Hey OD, it`s good to hear from you. I was just thinking you haven`t been around much since you defected to that Sportster. You have probably been too busy breaking that puppy in to spend any time riding a computer this summer. I hope you are all healed up from the early season wreck, and riding lots of twisties. Stay safe and keep the shiny side up.

Now the Dark Side in your sig refers to the Harley, not putting a car tire on the back wheel I assume.

At least one member modified his seat. Think they traced a rough outline of where their rear end contacted the seat, removed the cover, cut out the stock foam and replaced it with firmer foam.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

OHC, actually I have been checking in here now and again, posted a time or two...
My riding has been slow, I think I may have 500 mi. on the bike, but not over...
I haven't rode as much as I would like to due to a bit of a fall on my sore shoulder, done a stupid thing, got on a bar stool to change a light bulb over my loading bench in the garage and came a tumbling down and caught with my left arm and shoulder... MRI showed a torn bicept before, and I guess I re-tore it... It and the rotator cuff are still pretty rough but slooooowly getting better...
I also saw that you are doing a bit of mending too, thats good news...
Maybe we'll both get to ride this next summer...
I just ordered a Super Brace fork brace and am thinking about getting the MicroTach also, its $149 w/shipping so that is about as cheap as you can get a tachometer for I guess... Got the Super brace through a Sportster group buy for about $130 w/shipping so it was a good deal also...
Yeah I was refering to the Sportster in the signature... Oh yeah I guess it is a Harley, but its a Sportster to me... Harleys are them big ole ugly type bikes...lol...
