Headlight not working

I've had the VN750 almost 3 weeks. The previous owner had rigged up the headlight on a switch using the spare hot wire in the headlight casing. I never had high beam and low beam. Today I was trying to figure out why it was rigged up this way. When I flip the hi/low beam switch I can see the high beam indicator turning on and off. The headlight stays on with no changes. I looked at the manual and see the main power wire. Appears to be the black and yellow wire. I tested that wire from the headlight plug to the plug that is right before the Reserve Lighting Device. I see a good current. When I try to see if the Reserve Lighting Device puts out a charge on the yellow and black wire, I see no current. I tested this with the bike off (which I don't believe there should be a current) and with the bike on and even rev'd the throttle a bit (I know this wouldn't help but it made me feel better). The connector to the Reserve Lighting Device was disconnected when I made these tests. Shouldn't there be a current on the black and yellow wire on the coming from the Reserve Lighting Device? If I need to replace the Reserve Lighting Device, is it as simple as it looks?

Thanks for any suggestions. I'm not a mr wrench it. I just figure out how to fix things as they break so if i'm way off base, I apologize in advance.

Just did some research and found out the black and yellow wire are the ground. So no voltage suppose to go there and headlight gets power from the ignition button. Back to the drawing board.

I can't answer your question but when I put a switch on mine I just mounted a toggle switch on the light and iterupted the ground wire... It worked fine as an on off switch...
