If you couldn't pull over 8300 rpms, there's something wrong with your bike. My guess would be jetting.

Maybe you weigh 600 lbs?

My completely stock 2002 Vulan 750 with 40 pounds of luggage, my wife behind me and pushing a Plexistar 2 windscreen had no trouble hitting redline, and sometime before that occoured ....it showed an indicated 112 mph (which was likely an actual 101mph)

Was there a 50mph headwind when you tried it? Your jets sound too big btw.
Again, mine was bone stock, so am guessing your fiddling with it is the issue..

WHAT?!? Do people normally run this engine past redline? And how'd you get that in 5th?

My last attempt showed 105-110 on the speedometer and 117.9 on GPS. This was with 110/90 front, stock rear. 40/143 jets and 1 shim. Ear Shave and open exhaust after GB. My GPS has matched my speedometer at 60 and 80 mph. Not sure why it was off at top speed.

It didn't feel like it had much left in her, and I didn't feel like I had much left in me.

I have since removed the shim and it cruises better. But I haven't been able to try it since that change.

As a side note, my GPS once registered 480,378,410.6 MPH.....so if anyone is curious what the Vulcan will do....😂

You don't have to be a wuss or an old fart. I'm not even 40 yet and have decided i'm in no hurry, or in any need to impress anyone. Should i want to go fast, i'd like to be able to, but generally speaking, i'm totally content cruising at 55mph on a country road to nowhere.

I put 110 on the front (rear doesn't matter) and checked with my GPS. It's now dead on balls accurate. (That's an industry term).
