need some help

would like to get as much input on this as possible, I need to get this bike on the road again without spending more money or my wife will kill me, actually its not a problem, I have no more money but it will save me a lot of gas now that it is rising again. 2.86 here.
got my stator in and bike all put back together. got her started. on a fully charged battery it reads like 12.8. revving it to 3000 rpms I'm getting 13.45. does that sound about right. didnt want to rev to much more than that seein she was just completely drained.
but heres my problem. shes running a little rough. pretty smooth with the choke on, but a lot of hesitation when I gas it. and she wants to die with the choke off even when gassing it. when I redid the stator I did not remove the carbs. only a the big boots that I believe come from the ears and the fuel lines to the tank. will double check tomorrow to make sure I have all the hoses connected good. just though I would check to see if anyone else has ran across this.

Sounds like you might have gotten some crud into the carbs (I use the word crud because I cant say s.h.i.t. with this new language filter installed) So try running some sea foam threw her 1st. Keep us posted.

Peace

thought I'd try dumping the tank and putting fresh in with seafoam, how much to a full tank? how does the 13.5 sound? has a new stator and rr.

Check to make sure you don't have any leaks in the manifolds holding on the carbs to the cylinders. Warm the bike up to normal running temp and then use the idle adjust screw to bring the idle up to 1K or 1.1K and see how she runs. To check for leaks in the carb manifolds, use a cigarette or cigar and see if the smoke gets sucked up by the carbs, not the air intakes, when you rev the bike. Also, pour seafoam into the tank and see if you can cut through whatever crud is in there. Good luck.

13.45 sounds a tad low to me. Did you also replace the r/r? The battery?

Agree with the above comments on the rough idle. Check for a leak at the boots (the ones between the airbox and the air filter housing units have double seals), and also try the Seafoam on the carbs. Worst case, shoot some Gumout up through the float bowl drain and see if that cleans up some stuff, too.

12.8 on idle, going up to 13.45 at 3000 rpm isn't bad. Your hessitation on acceleration may be due to a disconnected or misconnected vacuum hose. I think that if it were a clogged carb it would run rough with the choke on or off, but it certainly can only help to run seafoam through the system.

SHE'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my dumb arse forgot a vacuum line. hooked it up and she's idling and accelerating smooth again. getting a little more juice out of the stator too but I will look into that a bit more and see if I can get a bit more out of it by cleaning up a few more contacts after I mow my 10 inch grass which I have been neglecting due to the bike (had my priorities straight). no noticeable oil leaks yet either knock on wood. thanks for everyones help and anyone replacing a stator or scared to I would be glad to help in any way I can. it went much smoother than I expected and had about 16-18 hours in it in an 8x10 shed, I would think with a full garage I could have shaved a little time off of that. I'll try to post a walkthrough of step by step on what all I had to remove to do the job. didnt get many pics though.

took her for about a 10 mile ride and got home, looks like she is gettin about 13.8 now @ 3000 and 4000. idle is 12.6 but kinda freaked me out when it really started dropping then I realized the fan kicked on. I have no accessories on it. anything I can do to get it a little higher. I'd like to see that 14.5 so many of you talk about. or do you think its okay @ 13.8. I need to get a voltmeter quick on her for peace of mind!
