More noob question

Not new to motorcycles by a long shot but the 2003 Vulcan 750/27000 miles is my first Kawasaki.

The bike sat for a year or so at the dealer so am running Seafoam in oil for 200 miles and added
Seafoam to gas at each fill-up (all 2 so far) Oil change will be Castrol 10w-40 and Bosch 3300 filter.


Per the forum I've done this:
Changed the oil immediately after buying the bike. Nothing in the screen. Added Seafoam
Iridium plugs
New air filters
Greased the drive train
Installed TOC mccts to replace worn-out accts. Adjusted cold running until I didn't feel any slapping then
1/4 turn more when hot
Fixed oil leaks (one slight drip from rear CCT stud to fix)
Installed 1157 LEDs in taillights on bike and sidecar
Installed exhaust gaskets that were missing
Replaced mufflers that had the baffles removed (checked carbs, plugs still in, air/fuel screws not changed)
Checked the plug wells and other gaskets for leaks (none so far)

I will relocate the RR and lube the cables as soon as I can find proper lube. What else should I do to "improve" the bike beyond normal maintenance?

The bike starts immediately with choke when cold, starts immediately when warm and idles nicely. Great
take off and just 2-3 nearly inaudible pops when decelerating. Other than the worry about top end noise I'm happy.

Any thoughts/suggestions about more to do? (Be kind!)

How bored are you?

-Did you do the full earshave?
-Cut out the goats belly?
-(rejet the carbs after these procedures)

-Do you have an AGM battery in there?

-2 Wire mod
-Blue wire mod

These seem to help a lot with some starting issues and bothersome loads on the electrical.

If you want to be really fancy, you can swap out the junction box for a generic from another bike, and potentially solve all of your future electrical issues!

Not that bored, just cautious. 15 years old, 27000 miles, sat for over a year. The dealer started the bike weekly, kept the battery up
but not ridden. I'm the 3rd owner. The first serviced it regularly for about 10 years, traded in for an ATV. The second owner didn't service it and traded for "something bigger". I got the bike for less than 1000 bucks and knew it had issues per the dealer. He's one of the better ones in town.

The last 3 months have been spent "fixin" to correct things like replace gutted mufflers and do what the forum suggests to make it more reliable.


I'm going to keep it "stock" as much as possible but will look at the 2 wire, JB swap and blue wire mods. AGM on order!

My last suggestion is to consider getting a MOSFET R/R. The R/R on our bikes is built using late 79's technology, and circuity has obviously come a long way since then. A good R/R could save you from ever needing to do the dreaded stator replacement. Be sure to keep us updated!

MOSFET RR. Thanks!

Saving the stator would be good! Don't want to pull the engine!

Spotted a $50 MOSFET kit on Amazon, no wire or fuse, just the R/R and the plugs. Not the Shindengen, so quality is unknown, and I didn't check the reviews.

Thanks! Yes, I saw that kit on eBay. I'm iffy about it too. Will spend the $$ for a Shindegen and do the RR relocate. This is (hopefully) the last bike due to advanced years and I want it to just be routine maintenance in the future years. :~)

Been real happy with the r/r under the left side cover out of sight. Easy to make the bracket and just uses the two existing bolts on the fuse box.

Downside is dropping the r/r to check fuses, but I've never had to. I always have a 10mm socket anyway, I keep one in the factory toolbox to remove the seat.

Good location there. I may mount mine outside by rear footpeg. Nobody rides there so no worries about it getting kicked or caught in pants leg.

Nice thing about a sidecar... full tool box in trunk behind seat. Even a jack! :~)
