Maximum payload????

I cannot find it anywhere on the site, my Kawa manual states that the dry weight is 483#...

Does anybody know the maximum payload weight?

What is this "maximum hauling capacity" actually called?

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to find out the rated weights of the bike, and the recommended SAFE weight limit for payload. It would be nice to have SOURCES for the following info as well:

1. GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (Bike + Fluids + Passengers + Gear)

2. Dry Weight (Bike; No Fluids, Passengers or Gear)

3. Curb Weight (Bike + Fluids; No Passengers or Gear)

4. GPLR - Gross Pay Load Rating (Passengers + Gear)

-------------------------------------------------------

According to my "Kawa Motorcycle Service Manual", the:

1. Dry Weight = 483 lb

2. Curb Weight = 238 lb (front) + 282 lb (rear) = 530 lb

For some unexplained reason, there is no listing for a GVWR or GPLR

------------------------------------------------------

And on the bike itself, GVWR: 918 lb. acording to the sticker on the neck, on the swing arm there is a sticker listing the recommended tire pressures, either for a "load" of 215 lb, or a load of 397 lb. That makes it sound like Kawa is rating the bike for a Payload of up to 397 lb maximum.

My "Clymer VN750 Service Manual" gives a similar chart, saying that some models can be loaded up to 397 lb, and some up to 406 lb.

Sounds like I may have one of the 397 lb max. GPLR models.

Just need clarification of what the Gross Payload Weight Rating amount actually is (GPLR)
Is it the 918# LESS the 530# = 388 lbs. If so it does not agree with the book chart nor the sticker chart.(397#)

Any help to clarify this will be greatly appreciated!

Attached is from the VN750 PDF Service Manual. It shows the tire pressure for different weight ranges, with a max of 406 lbs. Don't know if this is the max payload but...

You know this bothered me since curb weight was around 530 and I am around 298 to 300 until I realized I had removed 50to 60 lbs from my bike ,does this mean I can eat more and not carry passengers or lose some weight and carry one.Never mind I'll just eat what I want, steaks don't whine,Denny

Per the charts, some models can take a load up to 406 lb, while some can only go up to 397 lb. The 397 lb model includes the US, Canada, Australia, and S. Africa models. Apparently most other countries are allowed the 406 lb payload models.

My guess is that the 397 lb models include extra (heavier) exhaust emissions equipment, which reduces the available payload capacity from 406 lbs. to 397 lbs.

Not much difference between the listed Load of 397 lb and my calculated GPLR of 388 lb. But still, why is there a discrepancy?

Either way, if usable payload is only 388 or 397 lb, denny will be right. It doesn't sound like he can haul himself and an extra 100 lbs. and stay within Kawa recommended safety weight limits.

I guess he will have to remove the GB and other emission crap or ditch the steak and go with salad. LOL
