87 - neglected $30 bike

For those of you who like inflicting pain on yourselves you will like this. 87 VN750A with 9900 miles. Looks like it was in a little fire some time in its life maybe as part of a left side tip-over then passed through several owners in between being parked outside.

Issues: haven't been able to get the motor to turn over cause the starter doesn't work - tried good 12 V to the starter pos terminal; not even a spark. I suspect the motor is burnt up from trying to crank a frozen motor. Will pull the starter to see if it's something repairable. May try pulling the plugs to see if I can turn it over with the rear wheel or by pushing it down a hill.

Also needs: complete headlight & lt ear, blinkers, radiator screen, fr tire, fr brake fix, seat cover, lt carb intake hose (this may have allowed water into the fr cyl), side covers, 1 air cleaner cover, and a tail light lense. That's all!

Pour a little trans fluid in the cylinders, it will free stuck rings.

Ah sweet success: Pulled the plugs - they were somewhat gassy/oily with a little water on one but no water puddled in the cylinders. Squirted some used motor oil in the cylinders but would not turn with the rear wheel. Got a push and popped it in gear on a downhill - broke right loose. Fixed the starter now she cranks. I think I'm gonna have a runner.

Next to check spark, and see if the carbs are any good as is.

Mike & Seebeeare - I'll pm ya.

It`s good to hear you got the cylinders freed up and the starter is cranking over. I hope you can get all the other stuff you need, and be on the road soon. I`m getting the itch to ride after seeing a few more bikes out up here every day. Come on damn leg, heal up so I can get out there! Good luck with the project.
