I personally think lane splitting should be illegal. How many bikes get wiped out by doing something like that? I've seen them shoot by me on the highway while I sit there on my bike with my nuts roasting. What if a newer rider wanting to show off does it and gets nervous and then pinballs off the cars. I say leave the law how it is for this situation. I've wanted to ride in between cars before but I value my safety and will stick to my lane.
Not as many as you'd think.
It has already been proven lane splitting and filtering is
safe. It's commonplace in Europe. It seems 49 states are the holdout!
It's already legal here (by proxy of not being illegal). Lane splitting is every day life in California. They're just wanting to outline some official rules/suggestions in regards to it.
