Jerry, I admire you for keeping up with the spline lube so thoroughly. In reality, it probably would last (after the initial spline lube with the moly 60) for a lot longer time than you are re-doing it. A little lube goes a long way on that connection and we've seen many bikes that got their first moly 60 after 20-30 thousand miles (older bikes) and there was still some grease in the joint and the teeth were like new. I'm certainly not saying that I condone putting it off til that mileage by any means, but I can see why the service manual gives a much longer mileage interval after the first service of the splines. I'm betting that you found plenty of moly in the joint after each 10k miles when you pulled it apart. Most importantly, those who buy this bike need to pull it open and check and lube it as soon as possible. AFter that, they could easily wait until replacing the rear tire to do it again. But, again, I'm not discounting your thoroughness!

If we all were so diligent about the maintenance of our bikes, they would certainly last a long, long time!
