I just read another post about vibrations... didn't want to be accused of thread jacking, so here's a new one. Although now I may be accused of starting a new thread for no reason lol.

Imagine your balance dampers (or dampeners, don't know which is the right word) go out and start to disintegrate... you should notice this when you change the oil, by seeing small pieces of plastic in the oil screen.

Now, imagine that you pay no attention to it at all and just keep riding and doing oil changes.

Is there a point when there will be no more plastic bits in the oil screen at all and the bike is still ride-able?

I ask because my bike isn't smooth at all, plus it has a certain clanking sound. I've suspected the balance dampers, but I've never seen plastic bits in the oil screen on any oil change. No plastic bits and no metal shavings either.

Got a jump, even turning over strong it won't fire. The fuel lines are empty, or only partially filled... not filling, even on prime. Moving the petcock back and forth doesn't help. Also seems like I,ve got a lousy seal at the cap. Leaks fuel a bit. Any ideas? Tank is full.
Thanks!

But.. As The Knights Who Say Ni so beautifully put...
There is ONE SMALL PROBLEM!!!
I have the F&S Engine Guard. I was not able to put on the right pipe with the guard on, so I removed it, installed the pipe and now i don't think I can get it back on.
Does any one else have this issue?? Will the two fit with one another? Is there a trick to getting it on or am I just missing something.
Or will they just not work together

Any help and pics with your setup would help

My question is, does the VN750 have a distinct feature that can identify it quickly and easily when on the road? (Do I look for the radiator or horn or seat?)

Any tips are appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I need a little help, I have a 1993 750 and when I start it, the front cylinder seems to be the only one working, If I rev it up then the rear cylinder seems to work. but at idle the rear stops working. I can pull both the plug wires off the rear when it is idleing and it will continue to run, but if I pull the front plug wires off it kills. At idle the exhaust from the rear cylinder is cold until I rev it up then its hot. I pulled the plugs from the rear cylinder after it has been idleing, and both of them are wet and smell like gas, so i dont think its a fuel problem. when I am driving down the road it seems like I feel a little "chug" or a miss. I dont know what area to look into next so I would appreciate any help or ideas anyone could offer. thanks

How many of you do this? I hang with a lot of guys that ride sportbikes, and they all do this. I didn't used to: I would just pull the clutch, downshift, and release the clutch. Yeah, there's a little bit of a jerk, but not a big deal. For some time now I have been doing the blip the throttle rev matching thing, and it's definitely smoother, but not always. Seems kind of tough to blip it just the right amount every time.

But then I started thinking: If you're riding in-town most of the time, you're having to do quite a lot of downshifts. By giving it a little bit of gas every time, are you "wasting" gas, hurting your fuel mileage? I started noticing that I used to get 40-45mpg in town pretty consistently; now it's 38-42. True, I've started riding a little more aggressively, and that happened at the same time I started rev matching. So could it be more about the "heavy" throttle than the blipping, and it could also be crappier gas.

Is there really any benefit to rev matching other than to make downshifts smoother? Is it better for the clutch and gears to do so? Is there a downside, like poorer fuel economy? What say you?

So I'm looking for saddlebags for my bike but I'm not sure where to find the ones I want. I'd like to get bags that don't need mounting brackets and don't require me to relocate my signals. I'm not looking for a ton of storage so that's not really an issue.
Here's a pic of my bike, it seems like all the saddlebags I find are set up for newer Vulcan models. Can someone point me in the right direction?

So shortly after purchasing my bike, I replaced the tire. In the process, I removed the right heat shield. My son was playing in the driveway at the time... Well... when I went to put things back together, the heat shield was missing. The 5 year old claims he never saw it

Anyone got one lying around?? I don't really want to replace the whole exhaust system just to get the one shield, but it looks kind of funky with this piece of chrome missing. Below is a picture of exactly what I'm missing.

Pushing the tube back into my petcock doesn't seem to be doing the trick. While out on a short ride tonight I noticed one cylinder kick out, looked down and saw fuel just streaming out. In fact the gas gauge even dropped down. Scarry. I'm thinking about using vice grips to slightly deform the tube and then shove it back in or just replace it (even though I just put a $40 rebuild kit on it). Has anyone else had this experience? Did you try deforming it? It doesn't leak at all when I shove it back in.

So here's a little back ground first. I'm young at 19, :baby: looking for my first bike so that my wife and I can save $ on Gas. There's no need for me to take my big SUV to work and back every day. I was looking into a Honda CBR 250 for around 3g, but just didn't feel right about it.

So I happened upon this 1985 Vulcan and started to talk to the owner about it. Explained what I was after and asked about the bike a bit. Sat on it (i'm only 5'4", this is important!) and felt it out. The dude tells me if I can fix it and ride it out of his garage then it's mine.

Got that in writing and the Title in my name. Now it's just putting the mechanical experience I have to the test to fix it.

I really have no clue what i'm doing, but I'm already in love woth this bike. She's an old lady for sure, but then again cougars have always liked me

So not sure what this could be. I have been trying to trace down a knocking noise i have been hearing. The bike has been running completely normal. I used a screwdriver and tried to track down the noise but nothing stood out.

today while warming it up for my ride home( I know i shouldnt be riding it but i have to right now) i listened and it sounds like its coming from the carbs. the screwdriver didnt indicate this, but just by earshot it seems to be the source.

When i got home the knock was louder and seemed like it moved to above the goats belly.

I havent got around to checking to oil yet due to work schedule. Is there anything you guys can think of first or is that the next step. Thanks Mick
