: PA group meet/ride
bigrepp61 02-26-2009, 03:07 PM ok so i figured since its getting closer to nice weather i figure it would be a good time to start brainstorming.... i know there are a few people within an hour of state college so we could all meet up somewhere and do a mini group ride to wherever the rest want to meet.... any suggestions:huddle:
googy00 02-26-2009, 09:47 PM there's some real nice scenery up around perry county and lewistown area.
bigrepp61 02-26-2009, 11:02 PM yeah that sounds good... i mena we can have more than one also... i figure we can do like maybe an hour of riding and stop somewhere to eat and an hour back?? maybe longer... i guess we should figure out where the middle point of everyone is and meet there... then since we have the starting point we can figure out where to go from there.... we can either set it up in advance or we can wing it cuz i know that my gps has places that you can just put in a search for a certain type of food and it will tell you how to get there....
i guess ill start off with im in Philipsburg about half an hour west of state college...
bigrepp61 02-26-2009, 11:03 PM i also know that there is a guy in williamsportish and lewistownish.... ohh and cant forget philly!!
joeb37 02-27-2009, 04:55 AM and julian,pa Went for ride yestrday, short but nice to get out.
hyperbuzzin 02-27-2009, 08:26 AM .... or we can wing it ....
That's how we did it for the 1st Erie get together, hence the name 'Erie Potluck Jamboree'.
Very little was actually planned, other than where we were all gonna meet.
But this year I'm going to try to actually 'plan' a ride route if we can get another in the works.
The first one wasn't very interesting (except when we all tried to let a Hardley rider know his kick start was hanging loose while riding down the road!! LOL!! Ya had to have been there. It was pretty funny!!!!)
Best of luck getting this one in the works!! We do have quite a few Vulcan riders in the state of PA!! Not sure if I can make it to Central PA, but we'll see.
bigrepp61 02-27-2009, 12:21 PM hopefully i can get this to work correctly.....
maybe one of the admins can make this a sticky for the forum in the intro area...
ok so it doesnt seem to work... anyone have any experience with frappr maps?? a forum that im part of had it so ill jumo over there and figure out how to get it up and running...
hyperbuzzin 02-27-2009, 04:40 PM ... anyone have any experience with frappr maps?? a forum that im part of had it so ill jumo over there and figure out how to get it up and running...
There is a Frapper map here somewhere for VN 750 riders, maybe at Yahoo??
bigrepp61 02-27-2009, 06:49 PM must be at yahoo..... ive never seen it here....
LibertyPilot 03-03-2009, 11:15 AM Hey, Philly guy here (Mike)! Looking forward to the meet! My girlfriend said she'd like to come along and asked if she would be the only female. Would she be?
Please pardon the noob but how do these things usually work? Do we all agree on a date and time then whoever can make it just shows up? Do we reserve hotel rooms? Is it just a one day thing? Sorry about all the questions...
bigrepp61 03-04-2009, 12:20 AM i was thinking on it just being a day trip kinda think... just meet up with some of the other group members.... my fiancee will most likely be joining me so she wont be the only female... i mean we could make it a day or 2 thing... ride somewhere and get hotels or something like that.... its usually alot easier if its just a day trip where we all get together and hang out and bs..... theres a bunch from the center pa area so i was thinking we can all meet up and travel east towards you so our not riding like 3 hours to get out here.... an suggestions from you other guys??? i wouldnt mind taking a trip out to like harrisburg area or even go to cabelas as long as the weather is nice enough.... 2up if a little rough on my bike....
LibertyPilot 03-04-2009, 09:34 AM Ok, I don't mind a day thing. In fact after a bit of research I found an antique motorcycle museum in York, PA. Its about a half hour South of Harrisburg and only an hour and 45 minute ride from me in Philly. As its more central PA, maybe this would be a good spot for us to meet. York has all sorts of things to do. Besides the motorcycle museum, they offer tours of the local brewery among several other things. Here's a website listing all the stuff to do in that area:
http://www.explorepahistory.com/attraction.php?id=741&viewall=1
Under "Antiquing Nearby" is the link to the motorcycle museum. It looked pretty interesting to me. You guys ever been there?
bigrepp61 03-04-2009, 11:49 AM i mean were not exactly harley guys but we can go to their plant??? i was even thinking gettysburg or something like that... anyone else have any suggestions??? i know theres more than me and liberty going on this ride... anyone have thoughts on that??
bigrepp61 03-04-2009, 12:03 PM ok so i looked at it on a map and it looks like the best route would be having all of us state college guys meet up either in state or down towards lewistown... then go south east towards york???
hyperbuzzin 03-04-2009, 01:07 PM One suggestion..... If making it a 2 day thing, make hotel reservations well in advance if at all possible. :smiley_th
SunPA had a tough time finding an open camp spot at the first Erie ride, and all hotels were filled.
bigrepp61 03-04-2009, 03:56 PM yeah i learned that when attending monte carlo national meet.... the cosest hotel that had a room was like 35 imles away.... thanks for the reminder though..
shark88 03-04-2009, 06:17 PM I would be up for a ride to York, Gettysburg, etc.
Also, if anyone wants to do an overnight trip and ride along the Blue Mountains, there's a great camp site not far from me and easy to get to from Interstate 81 and they have cabins and camp sites for tents. Check it out if you get a chance http://www.twingroveparkcampground.com/ There are plenty of Twisty's going around the Blue mountains. It's where I ride to get away. I'll have to take some pics of the area when it gets warmer here (hopefully soon).
sunpa 03-04-2009, 09:04 PM If I may be so bold to throw out a couple of comments, especially since I will most likely not be able to participate in a meeting. Although I live in CT, I grew up in the Hershey area, went to school in State College and lived in the Philly area for a couple of years so I am somewhat familiar with Eastern PA. As Hyper said, I did have trouble finding a place to stay in Erie, but I think that was due the big Festival on Presque Island. For the rest of the trip across northern PA I had no trouble finding a spot in campgrounds.
If you're going for a 2 day weekend meet in the summer, I would stay away from the Lancaster, Harrisburg/Hershey, York triangle area. Hotels could be hard to find, expensive and the roads crowded with tourists.
If you want to include people from both the State College and Philly areas (and in between) you really need two days. If camping / mountain road riding appeals to you, I would suggest a couple of State Parks west of Wilkes Barre - Ricketts Glen and Worlds End. I stayed at both on my trip to the First Erie Potluck jamboree. They are cheap but I would recommend reservations for a summer weekend. I've also often stayed at the Econo-Lodge right by I-81 in Wilkes-Barre - ealy to get to and low cost. There are some great mountain roads between there and State College. Cabellas isn't too far away either.
So that's my opinion for what its worth.
Another tip:
Be prepared for no-shows. Due to weather, job or other unforseen issues some people will not make it. So begin the trip with the mind set that you will enjoy the ride and any activity even if no one else shows. (Note: On my trip to the Erie Potluck Jamboree the weather was terrible and lots of people that had showed interest in this forum cancelled out. Turned out that the weather cleared and I had a great time with Hyper and the other guys.)
bigrepp61 03-04-2009, 09:12 PM paul.. thanks for the info... im sure that it will be taken into account.. and its too bad you dont live in the area cuz we could use some experience in this kind of thing.....anywho im hoping that i can get a good day that there isnt any rain or anyhitng like that... either way i think its more of just a meet and greet more than anything.... if there is more feedback on who may be joining we can do a count on who thinks a 1 or 2 day trip wold be better...
LibertyPilot 03-05-2009, 08:10 AM I'd prefer a one day trip for a few reasons: its cheaper, the time I can spend away from the airport is pretty limited, and I'll have my girl with me who has obligations back here.
Also, I don't care where we go but Ephrata is right between Philly and State College. Its the town where I'm meeting the guy from Buttbuffer.com and having him put a gel insert in my seat. Anybody want a more comfy seat? We'll make a road trip out of it! LOL!!
bigrepp61 03-05-2009, 10:25 AM dude om down for a little sonic!!!!! i havnt had any since i moved from allentown...
gusdaman89 03-10-2009, 12:20 AM Just found this thread- I may be up for a one day trip this summer - but can't be until after mid may for me- thats when school ends. I will also be gone for one week in june sometime for vacation, but other than that have no plans. Antique motorcycle museum sounds cool. I also love Texas Roadhouse- I think theres one in state college now and i know there is one in Reading- pretty close to Cabelas also.
