Well I either have to modify the shifter, flatten my foot out, or update my shifting style. The position the shifter is in forces me to have to point my toes down to get it under the pad rather than sliding in sideways. And there are times it won't upshift unless I point my toes down between shifts, apparently to allow the shifter to return to the optimal position my foot seems to prevent it from reaching. If I point down, no issues, but it's not too comfortable. If I don't and it won't shift I then have to give it a second lift and it changes gears.
I tried to address this by rotating the shifter one click of the teeth clockwise, raising the pad. That makes it too high, I'm working too hard to upshift and now the downshifts are cranky. So I put it back where it was and I'll be heading out in a couple minutes to make sure it's at least back to where it was.
What am I doing wrong, or what can I do?

If you haven't had the bike very long, you haven't given yourself time to grow accustomed to its layout. I used to think about shifting this bike, but now, after 3 years, I never think about it. It was a big change to me when I built the floorboards and it took some getting used to for shifting foot position, but that didn't take too long and I was used to it. Make sure you have the shifter adjusted to where it works the best for you, then give it some time and I think you'll get used to it.

Had the same issue when I bought my bike a few years ago. While I was getting used to the shifter, I bought a pair of floorboards from KnifeMaker (someone else makes them now) and it made a world of difference not to mention the added comfort without the footpegs. Try and adjust the shifter or buy a pair of boards or both. Eventually you get used to it and don't think about it at all while you're riding.
Welcome and good luck with the bike. :smiley_th

Raise it up and build up the underside of the shifter to lower it a bit. This may help you.

Ride awhile you will get use to it. :beerchug:

If I am not mistaken, there may be an adjustment ( a turnbuckle type of adjustment) to move the pedal up or down without removing and rotating the part of the shifter that goes on the shaft.

That part is inside the engine, you have to split the case to get to it.

thanks fellas.... I've returned it to where it was without breaking anything. While it isn't perfect, it's better than the adjustment I was able to make which was too high. As several have said, I'll get used to it the more I ride.
