: Alabama fun roads

This past weekend (November 1st & 2nd), I spent some real time in Alabama, covering nearly 700 miles from Saturday thru Sunday. The vast majority of this was on some of Alabama's two-lane highways.

To restate the already incredibly obvious....and as some of our other members here will readily agree with....our VN750 shows some of its best side when it is faced with a really winding road!.......

Once again...for the benefit of those considering it....the oversized tires (see signature below, for tire sizes) proved to be a most welcome upgrade. Since my last longer trip (with the stock factory tires/sizes) like this one, it was very noticeable how the bike felt more sure-footed and stable--especially as the turns got tighter!....:smiley_th

For those who may ride in Alabama on future rides, the following roads are submitted as being some of the more fun to ride, in the southern 2/3rd's of the state:

AL State Road 25: Leeds to Vincent, AL--From north to south, this one starts just east of downtown Leeds. It reminded me a lot of some of the roads in north GA--very twisty, with some good elevation changes to make things even more interesting! Not bad on-road practice for "Deal's Gap". Great scenery if you can catch the leaves changing color (very late October and/or early November). Leeds, AL (just east of B'ham) is home to the Barber Motorcycle Museum. Past/below Vincent, this state road starts to straighten out and becomes <<yawn>> just another road....

AL State Road 49: starts just north of Tuskegee, and runs north to State Hwy 281 (just east of the Cheaha State Park). Some nice sweepers, and curvy enough to stay interesting.

AL State Road 281: from Cheaha State Park, to US 431: twisty, and very, very scenic (especially in early November). Watch out for the wildlife!

AL State Road 41: from Camden, AL to Monroeville, AL-- the further south I rode on this one, the tighter the turns got! The quality of the pavement is somewhat suspect in some places, but this section turned out to be a fun (and twisty) surprise!

AL State Road 41: from Monroeville, AL to Brewton, AL-- lots of fun high-speed sweepers!

Another suggestion--check out Alabama's DOT website, for the latest info on highway construction conditions and locations: http://www.dot.state.al.us/docs

Hope some of the above keeps someone else entertained as they later ride north/south (or south/north) in Alabama.....:motorcycl
