Hey new to the group, Just rebuilt my 94 and everything seemed fine for a couple of days then on my way to work the rear wheel locked up. I did hear some loud clanking right before. I can roll the bike forward but backwards it locks up after about three feet. Any ideas.

Most likely it is your drive shaft, or the final drive that has goon bad. Did you check you splines when you had it apart? You will have to pull the wheel and check things out. Also as you move it is it in gear or out. If in gear could be in the engine.

Does not matter in gear or not, I did look at the splines they looked good. I did have a small problem getting the drive shaft reconnected with the u-joint. Also when it was on the center stand and out of gear the rear wheel would not spin.

Were you able to tell where the clanking was coming from?
I'm wondering if something in the brake drum broke loose.
One way to help determine if it is in the engine or in the final drive is to disconnect the shaft and see if you can spin the rear tire. If it doesn't spin it's either the final drive or the brake. If it spins, see if you can spin the shaft by hand.

yes the wheel moved freely before I put the motor back in. The bike only has 8k miles that final drive should last longer.Ihope

Sounds like the rear brakes ave having a problem.
I have seen this on cars with drum brakes.

Make sure that all is free and turning after you have replaced the bevel gear. The drive shaft was probably in a bind from the start.

My rear wheel locked after I lubed my splines. My snap ring had popped out, and I didn't re-install it correctly.
