: VN750 Highway pegs
robgest 07-30-2005, 07:23 PM I have been looking all over for a set of Highway pegs for my bike with no luck. I have found a couple of places(Not easy to find stuff for this bike) that I can get the engine guard only, and then I would need to buy a set of pegs and hope they mount on correctly. Guess what? I don't want some big old peice of chrome on the front of my bike that if I need to work on the radiator I would have to remove it. So me and a buddy took a little time and developed a set of pegs that would mount on my bike with ease and you could place your feet in three diffrent positions. I have taken a couple pictures..Tell me what you think.
Remember this is only the prototype to see how well they fit and how well they feel going down the highway.
CNI Dawg 08-07-2005, 06:53 PM Those should work just fine!
What could you make me a set for?
Any problem bending the bracket that bolts th the frame?

Ccspinner 08-21-2006, 07:28 PM Those look simmiler to the ones I make for people.

Have had alot of interest in them so far.
Good luck with them
CCspinner, I was thinking about getting a set, but I am wondering if they will be too far away for my 30 inch inseam. Is it possible that you could measure the length of the stretch? I would really like a pair, but I don't want to put them on if my feet can't reach them. Also, do you take Visa?

Ccspinner 08-21-2006, 10:49 PM I have a 30 intch inseam also, works good not a strech. Very comfortable.

Well friends..... thanks to Chad, my vulcan now sports HIGHWAY PEGS!
For those vulcanites who prefer their highway pegs sans engine guard, I highly recommend Chad's bracket.
They arrived quickly and with excellent instructions.
Chad, many thanks for your prompt response and quality craftsmanship.
Now... onto the Blue Ridge Pkwy.

You should have no problem. Chad's a short feller. Kinda like a human daschsund. :beerchug:
Hey, wait... I resemble that statement. We both are the same height... Oh well...:pepper:
The brackets that Chad makes are awesome... And if you find that the peg is not where you want, Kury Akyn makes a mounting peg with a bend that will put the peg exactly where you need it to be. 28" to 38" inseams all can be covered by this... :notworthy
I haven't given up on the highway pegs, just have to put them off until I get the luggage debacle figured out.
750 FREAK 09-10-2006, 08:35 PM My '86 came with stock highway bars...
jim kitts 09-14-2006, 09:46 AM I Like To Pegs Great Job! I Wonder If They Would Fit My 85 700 With A Engine Guard?
norsseman 09-14-2006, 02:27 PM CCspinner's Hwy Pegs have the best appearance. Would like to get a pair, but Lena has so much raw power and thrust that I almost get thrown off the bike sometimes. Need to get a Windshield and backrest to keep Lena from
tossing me off.
Once I get a windshield and backrest I will be knocking on CCspinner's door
again.
jake.s 09-26-2007, 03:43 PM I have the opposite problem of Amanda, I have a 36" inseam will Chads highway pegs not give me enough leg room?
I have a 30 intch inseam also, works good not a strech. Very comfortable.

Live Long and Prosper 09-27-2007, 04:50 AM CCSpinner I'd like a set of those highway pegs you make also, please. I'm 5'11" and am wondering if they're too close, if anything. I'd like to semi stretch out afterall......
Your design doesn't have a bar connecting the two halves. Do they "wiggle" from side to side any?
I also like the passenger handgrips you fashioned and wonder what you'd charge for those also.....

Highway bars were never "stock" that I know of...you got a photo of them?

Hey CCspinner, so how much for the whole thing ready to be mounted. I would like to purchase some from you.
Thx.
darrelc5 01-31-2008, 02:49 PM I looked at my frame today and noticed that the holes that the bolts which your bracket mount on are not in the same plane. The lower hole looks about 3/16" farther out from the frame than the upper hole. Do you have to use a shim between the back side of peg bracket and the MC frame for the upper mounting bolt?

His mount simular to mine:

So , yes , you do need a 3/16 spacer (two washers or so will do the trick)
KM
Ccspinner 01-31-2008, 08:11 PM The bolt holes are the same on mine, I use the motor mount bolt holes.
I did not need a shim .
Ccspinner 01-31-2008, 08:13 PM Hey CCspinner, so how much for the whole thing ready to be mounted. I would like to purchase some from you.
Thx.
There is a large price range on pegs, If you want exactley like mine is then I will charge you exact price of the pegs aqnd spacers I use.
I think they were around $25, I can let you know if you wish.
darrelc5 01-31-2008, 09:52 PM Wow! Guys, these are some really great ideas and good work! I appreciate seeing your different solutions. Knifemaker, your photos and assembly diagram are very helpful.
vn750joe 02-01-2008, 07:27 PM I'll buy a set for $25. PM me your Paypal info.

I think there is a communication misunderstanding on what Chad is charging. Chad charges $70 (shipped) for his mounting brackets. The $25 that he mentioned was what he picked up a set of pegs to go on the mounting brackets. He is not selling the actual highway pegs, to my knowledge. Just the mounting brackets.
I've seen the brackets he makes and they are top notch. When I rode his bike over the summer, I had the chance to put my feet up on them and found the placement of the pegs to be in a very comfortable position. As I'm beginning to tear the VN750 down for a new look, a set of his brackets are on my list of potential additions.
Hope this helps clear up a misunderstanding...
Ccspinner 02-01-2008, 10:41 PM Bulldog is Correct, I sell the Brackets for $70, The $25 is for the addition of the pegs like I did on mine, Sorry if it was confusing
vn750joe 02-02-2008, 12:42 AM Sorry, confusion was probably my own. Thanks for clearing it up.......
I may STILL be in touch later.
borto1990 03-30-2008, 05:49 PM OK everyone.. I know I read it before but I can't find it for the life of me. I am looking for pegs for my bike WITH the engine guard so chad's I don't believe will work. I can't remember what the deal was. Something with the offset is sounding familiar. Does anyone have a link to a set that will just bolt on to the quard? Or just any other info to help jog my failing memory!!! Thanks for any help..

What you are looking for are a peg that will attach to a 1" bar and had a 90 degree bend to them. I have them on my VN750 from a company called POSA but they are long out of business.

What a lot of people here have done is look at the KuryAkyn catalog and have found exactly what they needed. Expensive but NICE.
Something like the KuryAkyn right angle mounts seen here http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=metric&ci=3265. Idealy, a short mount and a long mount works best as the Fire & Steal Engine Guard is kinda offset. I'm sure that someone who has actually done the KuryAkyn set-up will chime in with exact part numbers and pricing as well as pictures.

I'm guessing that the bike in the pics is yours Bulldog. How did you get those floor boards to work? If it's not too much of a hassle that may be something I'd like to put on mine.
curtis97322 04-03-2008, 12:14 PM Those floorboards are the fire and steel boards.
They are nice but spendy (there's a set on ebay with a couple days left that's up at 230 right now).
A cheaper alternative is the floorboards formerly made by knifemaker, now made by chad (CCspinner). I made my own following KM's design and am quite pleased with em.

Yeah, I've got Chad's new website on my favorites and am really thinking about sending ~$150 his way for the boards and the peg mounts. I didn't realize that fire and steel made boards for our bikes, I assumed that the ones on ebay were mis-labeled and were really for the 800. $230 is already WAY more than I want to pay for them when I can get a set for $75.
Sloppyburpfest 04-03-2008, 03:11 PM Yeah guys, I'm currently the high bidder on them at $230! So please stop upping it! I was planning on picking them up and then doing what I could to make technical drawings of them so someone like Chad or KM or someone else with machine shop skills could figure out a way to fabicate something like them for everyone.

If ya want people hands off, ya probably wanna say the same over at the Y! group too.
Do keep in mind that most of what KM and Chad have offered have been flat pieces of metal machined to shape - requiring minimal machining. From the looks of the f&s boards - they'd require casting, welding, or a decent amount of machining. Costs to "us" would have to be quite a bit higher than what has historically been charged for the KM style floorboards.
Now what we need (while talking about a pain to fabricate) is someone to start making forward controls. I'd love a set but can't justify near the 500 jardine wants...

I have been looking at that but there is alot of work involved.
I know I can shift by hooking my heal on my shifter from my Highway pegs, and I can use the rear brake to.
Mastertech 05-07-2008, 09:12 PM I bought those cheap standard highway pegs at my local motorcycle shop;
I bought some 3/8 grade 8 drill rod ;
I then used that for the 5inch outwards exstension, and then bolted the mount bracket onto the highway bars. Rode them for 25,000 miles up to now.
MikeW0311 06-01-2010, 01:01 PM Just wanted to say Thanks to Hawk. I purchased the foot boards and highway peg brackets. Installed them over the weekend; went for my first ride with the new gear and loved it.

mitch 06-03-2010, 11:24 AM looks very similar to the ones that i have. have no idea where they came from as they were on it when i bought it. i think my brackets are angled up a little higher but they are comfy on the road.
