I’m wondering if theirs any tips or ticks for re-installing the front bevel gear so I don’t break anything during the install. I just replace my stator and I’m having problems re-installing the front bevel gear. It seems like it doesn’t want to go far enough to the right to align it up to the case. Is their something I need to do with the universal joint to give it move room? The Clymer manual doesn’t mention anything special that needs to be done in-fact the manual reads like it should be a simple install

The last time I installed my front bevel gear, it gave me some problems. Previously, it slid into position with no problems. This last time, I thought I'd done something wrong because no matter what I did, it wouldn't slide all the way on the drive shaft. After leaving it alone for a few minutes to calm down, I went back to it and must have discovered the secret handshake because it slipped right on.

Be patient and don't get mad. If you do, walk away for a few minutes and don't try to force it on. My guess is that there is something that causes the U joint spline to hang up on the bevel gear coupler by a hair that just needs a little coaxing to get it to slip in.

I've been releasing the lower bolt from both shocks, and that gives me room to line up the swingarm better. Makes a huge difference (trust me, I've tried with the shocks still on) - can still be a trying, but you'll have more play for lining things up.

Good luck!

You’re right on the money, after walking away and re-grouping it slip right into place
Thanks for your help

Hey Guys.......Don't forget that there is a coil spring at the rear of the driveshaft that holds the shaft snug towards the front of the case. When installed, there is a slight force applied forward on the shaft. This sometimes comes into play when trying to install the front bevel gear assy.
