Just noted on your profile that you are a Nurse Practitioner!! Excellent.
In which area of medicine?
I'm a Physician Assistant (still hold my RN license too) who works ER in Texas.

Hey Rick!

That is too cool! I am in Family Practice, liscened for 14 years. We don't have a lot of PA's around here, Florida restricts them pretty heavily. How long have you been practicing? Do you like it?

Only been practising about a year and a half. Was a nurse for close to ten years before this. Texas is fairly liberal with the use of PA's. Had a PA friend move to Florida about 6-7 yrs ago...Lake City? seems to ring a bell. Have lost touch with him.
Anyway, I enjoy what I do. Would rather win the lottery but, someone over in El Paso just hit the $145 million jackpot last night.

They have a big VA hospital in Lake City, most PA's in Fl work for the military or Fed government (prisons). I love what I do & I am very good at it, but working for yourself is very difficult. If I ever meet you face to face I'll tell you about my nightmares working for MD's (it involves sex scandels, fraud, embesselment, prison, drug addiction) and why I opened my own office. I have been a nurse for 18 years (damn! that long????) and medicine has definately changed during that time. Sounds like you missed the boat on the lottery lol

I can understand setting up your own shop. Good for you.
I did family practice for a short time while I was getting my foot in the ER door but, it wasn't my niche.
That's the good thing about ER. Very little interaction with doctors. I work at a critical access hospital so when midlevels are here, there are no doctors around. Doc is available by phone. Whatever comes through the door is mine until:
a) I save them
b) I kill them
c) They die on their own
d) I calmly explain that the illness for which they are seeking care does not rank up there with situations that I consider to be emergencies. This holds doubly true if it is three o'clock in the morning and I'm on the last six hours of a thirty-six hour shift. If they become loud, obnoxious jerks in the process of my explanation, refer to option b) above.

Hey Rita,

I got some beads at the ROT Rally this June. Did you earn yours the same way I did?

Wait, maybe to much info. Maybe we should just keep that too ourselves <G>

Atta girl, Rita. You go baby, let it all hang out. We only live once, well sometimes life de-rails us, and we have to start over again. But we are only young once and if we don't have a little harmless fun now, we will regret it when we are old and bound to the porch on a rocker, as crotchety old people.

Hoot,

I agree with you 100%. Over the past couple of years I have learned to let my hair down & have fun instead of stressing over what I have been dealt. Life it too short for me to get gray hairs because of things I can't control.

If I have enough room in my bags I am going to bring special beads for every one, just to get them in the spirit! :-)

LOL...well a little closer to where this thread started....I am an EMT-IV. But none of that would mean anything if I get to KY lake....and bring my beads :) ...lol
