: first poker run-"bikers for boobs"

yesterday the wife, a friend of ours and I, all went on our first "poker run" it was called "bikers for boobs". it was to help raise $ for breast cancer. the run started and ended the Mr. Pete's Sports bar right across the street from us. (how could we pass that up?) it was "1st Annual Hearts & Soles Poker Run"
so it was there first too! if they keep doing it every year, so will we! so cool!

we met a biker who live just a few streets over from us. he rode with us on the run and after the run he came over to our house for a few beers.

we had to go to four other bars to draw cards for a hands. the best hand at the end of the run wins $150! the first bar we went to was "Hambden Country Inn" none of us have been to this bar before so we had idea what it would be like. turns out to be a nice little place, it was clean and the people were real nice too. at this bar i pulled out a ace of clubs, i was happy with that. every one else pulled low cards. then we sat at the bar and had a drink (our old and new friend had a beer and the wife and i had water we don't like to drink and ride) also, just before we got there (we took a right when we should have taken a left) passed by a Vulcan 500 for sale! this is the bike the wife wants for her next bike. but I thought about stopping to look at it, but didn't.

on to the next bar "The Outpost" this bar was just down the road. again none of us have been to this one either. (this is why i think "poker runs" are cool, they can take you on new roads to new places where you can meet new people)
"The Outpost" is nice and big. lots of room and clean. this is where the wife pulled a ace hearts, I pulled a 8 diamonds, the others pulled low cards again. we didn't have a drink there, but we got a lot of bike run fliers and info. right when you walk in there is a table filled with fliers and other bike info.

on to the next bar "The Wagon Wheel" now this bar we have all been to before. the nice thing about going to it was it was far away so we got a nice ride on some nice back roads.

"The Wagon Wheel" is not as nice as the first 2 bars we when to, but it is big and it is clean. also, it is a well known/liked place for the "locals" (if you know what I mean) this is where the wife pulls a ace of clubs, I pull a 7 of diamonds and the other 2 again pull low cards. after we draw are cards the nice ladies tell us that there is hot dogs inside for all the riders. our new friend and I order burgers and beer. (again water for the wife and I)

as sit there and have lunch inside, outside it starts to get a little cloudy and the sky starts turning grey. (up to this point it has been nothing but great weather) none of us really think much of it. we get on our bikes and head out for the next stop, "Concord Tavern". again this is another nice long ride on back roads. well about half way to the next bar it starts to rain a little. this is not a big deal, then the next thing we now it's coming down cats and dogs and there is no place to pull in and get out of the rain! so we get wet! also this is the first time my wife has rode (her own bike) in the rain and she is leading the pack too! she did a great job!

so we get to the "Concord Tavern" (thanks to the wife for spotting it in the rain. I knew I had her lead for a reason.) again none of us have been to this bar before either. well, this one was not as nice as the first 2 either. it was small but clean. also they don't have Heineken there. (our friends where not to happy with that) this is where the wife pulls her third ace of the day, three in a row! what luck! the rest of us pull low cards.
so as we sit there looking out side to see it the rain will let up. our old friend keeps saying how mad he is that he took out his rain gear saddle bags and left it in the garage. I had a rain coat in my saddle bag and gave it to him and my wife wore her sweat shirt. I was wearing my riding jacket.

so off we went back to "Mr. Pete's" by the time we get back the sun is shining and the clouds are gone. but, we are all soaked to the bone. all of our boots are filled with water. some of the people show up in rain gear some not. all in all it was a good time. when we got back we pull are last card and we find out that my wife is in the lead with 3 of a kind! but, had to wait until 7:00pm to find out who will win. we didn't want to sit around in wet clothes so we came home sat in the garage and had some beers for a while. then our new friend had to go and soon after that our old friend had to leave and we sent the kids out to get some food. the wife and I ran back to the bar to se if she won or not. she ended up getting beat by 1 person. man, she really wanted that $ too!

but, all in all, it was a really good time. we went to new places, met new people, got free food and got to ride too. you got to love that!

Sounds like loads of fun...I haven't gone on a poker run with a bike yet...used to go on them all the time with my dad's and my muscle cars though (his was a '68 Cammero and I would drive a '73 Torino.)

Sounds like fun. Just curious if some people had a beer at each stop??

Breast cancer is a serious subject but it seems lately they are developing a sense of humor - i.e. "Bikers for Boobs" - LOL! I rode last week with a bike that had a "Save the Tatas!" sticker on it - again a breast cancer campaign slogan. Seems like a good way to get the attention the cause needs.

Certainly sounds like it was a great time, inspite of the rain.
Any poker run I've ever been on (including ones with the dirtbike) I've never even had a pair!!??

Great cause you rode for too! :smiley_th

I think a few people a had a beer (or 2) at each stop. I know at least 1 couple did. they were some hard core bikers, and they were feeling real good when the got back.

also, all the ladies that were working the run, were wearing "Tatas" t-shirts.

Cards or tatas? ;)

LMAO!
Well, for me it was cards, but as can be expected, at some of the much more Hardley oriented runs, yeah, there were more than a couple pairs of tata's to be seen.
Mostly at the after run party. :beerchug:
