I recently installed (with help from my brother) 16 inch apehangers on a bone stock 2004 VN750. This info may help you guys if you don't already know it. You do not need to order a new Choke cable or even splice your wires (they are tight on the left side though). I ordered 12 inch over cables (push/pull throttle and clutch and choke) from MotionPro. Turns out that 12 inch over is a bit much. Would have been better with 10 inch or even 9 inch over. You have enough choke length already. I did also order a 12 inch over main brake cable, but should have gone 9 or 10 over. (IT'S A BIOCH BLEEDING THE FRONT BRAKE). Now, the electric wires are a bit tight like I said on the left side and have to go outside the plastic cover that hides the radiator top. Had to remove the brass colored wire clips under these plastic covers as well. 16 inch apes on this bike feel right to me and I am happy with the result. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how. You all may already know this, so if you do I appologize for the redundancy, I am new here. THANX!:baby:

Brothers!!!!! I constantly read about folks installing drag bars and finally get to hear of another person with 16 inch apes. One of the first things I did about 6 years ago when I got my bike was to install 12 inch apes. I decided a year and a half ago that they weren't quite high enough and did the 16 inch thing and couldn't be happier with the look and the feel. By the way, I just did about 600 miles this past weekend riding from Chicago to Iowa to the "Field of Dreams" baseball field, http://www.flickr.com/photos/airord/sets/72157606019056254/
up and down the Mississippi River and back home and was never uncomfortable, but I do suggest on trips having either a backrest or just using a T-bag or something similar like I do to lean against. Can't wait to see the pic's......

I have loved apes since I was little. I saw a picture of Stevie D's bike when I was looking for ideas for mine like a week after I got it. I didn't think apes would look good on the VN til I saw his. Beautiful bike Stevie! Can't wait to see your bike Scottish!

Lovin the bike...flat black, black rims, apes....she has it all. Do you plan on doing anything to the seat? I like the look of a nice sportster type seat, but I'm not sure if I wanna go that route yet.

I love the solo Badlander style seats. That's actually my very next thing to do is mod the seat somehow. In order to properly solo it I have to figure out what I want the rear fender to look like and also cut the frame a bit. My other option is to just cut off the passenger backrest and re-wrap the seat. Considering the amount of work difference in the two  I will probably just do that for now.

I was able to find them on powersportssuperstore.com for a little cheaper and I bought them there with Kury grips so I saved on shipping.

OK, so you need 2 of those- the throttle cables. And then a brake cable? Where are you guys getting those? I think it said the clutch and electrical were long enough (if barely)?

I need a brake hose- I will go to the local dealer with the stock one and get one that's about 2" longer or so...
Also- if you are usign a different set of handlebars, you may need to drill a hole for the little nub that keeps the control in place... bottom for left control and top of bar for throttle control.
