Anyone thinking of doing rolling thunder?

I know it's a massive test of how cool you can keep the R/R on this bike, but still curious if anyone thinks they'll be in the DC area and wanted to get together for some earlier weekend riding or grub.

Svarog - I am going to try and make it. A buddy at work is organizing a small group of about 10 bikes. He is coming up from Stafford. Not sure of all the details yet.

He's planning on meeting up for the ride at one of the Harley dealerships, from there with a larger group to Pentagon, and then into DC.

Maybe in the crowd of 300,000 bikes we'll be able to spot the only 2 VN750s, ya think?! :smiley_th

Not sure about NY/NE area but there is another rallye in VA in October. Called "Rumble Thru the Tunnels" and its held in Norfolk. Covers all the area's tunnels. You have not lived until you've been with 200 bikes in a mile long tunnel. (But you won't hear good for a week, either!)

This is a smaller ride in support of local Tidewater area Navy and Military dependants. It's several thousand bikes which is small compared to the several hundred thousand that participate in Rolling Thunder.

There was at least one mote vulcan 750 in the crowd. I have been there for the last three years in a row. while my friends were burning their legs on their oil tanks and overheating, i stayed cool no overheating problems at all.

Awesome! I rode with 1 Triumph, 2 Ducatis and 5 Harleys. One of the Ducatis overheated but everyone else did fine. Except one of the Harley's got a flat!

I didn't see any other VN750. Saw a bunch of of bigger Vulcans - 800s and 1500s, but no 750s.

vulcanjoe - Where did you stage? We met up at Cracker Barrel at 234 and 95 then staged at the Harley Dealer on Route 1 just south of 234. Pretty cool how they stop traffic and let thousands of bikes pass. I couldn't believe all the crowds lining the streets all the way up Route 1 and then they gathered on all the overpasses all the way up the HOV lane to wave. Then in DC, the ride around the mall! Pretty incredible experience. Bikes were still streaming in when we left about 3:00.

We ended up in the overflow parking lot at the Pentagon. I wish we had made the main parking lot - I understand there are more vendors over there.

Svarog - Did you make it?

I didn't make it for the ride. The girlfriend was nervous about riding after a bumpy ride the night before and the recent news of a friend of a family member going down for good (collision with a deer, sans helmet). So we went to the base of the bridge and just watched instead.

2 hours (12:20 - 2:20) watching bikes pass and I saw 3 verifiable 750s, and one that may have been. Many larger Vulcans and no sign of scoop. Hell of a sunburn to show for it all too.

Svarog - sorry to hear about your family's friend. A deer strike even with a helmet is a bad thing.

We actually never came over the bridge on the planned route. We got diverted when my buddy had the flat and ended up entering DC one bridge south and then taking a closed off-ramp into DC. (After being cleared by the cop blocking the offramp. Weren't sure if he'd let us pass or give us all tickets!) We then joined the last half of the ride around the mall and parked and joined the festivities.

I applied sunscreen 3 times during the day. There was no shade at all in the parking lot of the Pentagon. Except of course for the goldwing group that brought chairs and umbrellas in their trailers!

I want to put mini ape-hangers (10 3/4" rise I believe) on my 1986 vn750, did you have to get longer cables for your clutch, speedo, front brakes? I don't really want to have to replace all the handlebar cables.
