I'm not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this question but here it goes. I'm planing on taking the clutch off my motorcycle and replace it with an automatic clutch instead, I have no mechanical skills but I'm not afraid of learning, first of all I have no idea where the clutch is located! :baby: so therefore maybe there are some of you that might be able to help me with this! maybe even walk me thru it, pictures and plain simple English will be an awsome help. Thanks ahead of time.

Automatic clutch???? Who sells this?

The Yamaha FJR 1300 AE does have one of these, but it requires a rather sophisticated computer and linkage system to work properly.

Am an not aware of any aftermarket kit to retro fit a normal manual clutched bike.....

(and if you have "no mechinical skills:"....you be trippin.....?)

is just a matter of taking the clutch out along with the cap and sending it out, when it returns all I have to do is re-install it, so basically all I need info on is to locate the clutch and how to take it out and of course if there are any special tools that I might need. you see I'm a left below knee amputee and I must use all the tools that are available to make this experience enjoyable. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link over to the website where I found this info but I believe that if you google it you will find it

Well, there is a big difference between an automatic clutch and an electric shifter.

If you still have a clutch lever to pull in...it ain't an automatic.

The Yamaha I mentioned is an electronic clutch...the computer applies the clutch..but you still have to shift.

My car has a "paddle shifter" that works in a simular way..(but it has an automatic transmission)

I have seen electic shifters...but you still have a clutch lever...

So...
I'm confused, and you really need to clarify this more...

The clutch on the Vulcan is on the right side...heres a picture of it with the cover removed:

Ok, the electronic shifter is a seperate option wich I'm currently waiting on that part to install, there is another device "Automatic Clutch" but in order to install that one I have to ship the clutch out to this other party. it will be so much easier to explain if you guys can take a look at it, so here is the link

Interesting... So you pull the clutch plates and the basket and send em in and ya get back what amounts to (in simplified terms) a centrifugal clutch, right?

If ya have broadband, there's a full download of the kawasaki service manual here (117 MB download)...

One note I'll add that I'm not sure will be an issue - the vulcans have been known to have a "coffee grinder" sound coming from the clutch - mine was accompanied by a pretty serious grab that I partially blame for one of the 3 times I've dropped the bike (Once I slid, once the kickstand was SUPPOSED to be down..., once the rear tire went a spinning) - to prevent this there's a kawasaki service manual (I'm sure someone can link it for ya) that involves drilling holes around the circumference of the clutch basket... supposed to prevent the clutch grab issue...

This almost sounds like the CVT that is used on the Ridley motorcycles.

OK..got it now. Intresting for sure, and a bit expensive. Seems if all you are missing is some left leg, all you really need is an electric shifter, you can still use a clutch lever with your left hand right?

We have a member over at the Yahoo group that is also an amputee. He ended up adding a sidecar...so no worries about coming to a stop and the bike leaning "the wrong way"

Let us know how it works out after you get it installed.

Well here is an update on my situation for those of you that are interested, I passed my Motorcycle exam on Jun 2nd and the electric shifter is working 100% on the bike. Yesterday was actually the first time I took it out in the open road after 2 months of sporadic practice, I was afraid that I was not going to be able to ride because of the numerous steps there is when slowing down and taking off but luckly I went smooth like butter, I still needs lots of practice but for nowit will do. The Automatic clutch (centrifugal) is on the backburner and do not believe I will order it (will see!) if things get to complicated I will be trading it in for a Suzuki Burgman 650 that I have my eyes on:wow:
I want to thank all who replied to me and try to help me in my ignorance, now if I can get this "poping" sound to stop it will be a better experience, thanks again and wish me luck!
