: Final Drive weep hole?

I'm in the middle of a few odds and ends...including a new back tire, brake pads, and lubing the splines. I had the final drive sitting on the workbench over night and afterwards notice a puddle of oil. I also notice that the drive was upside down as well. It looks as though there is a "weep hole" of some sort that the oil was leaking from. Is this "normal"?? Is there a "weep hole" of some sort towards the top of the final drive? Is this used for as a vent?

Thanks....I should have taken a photo and posted it....that sure would've helped ...I think.

Ok...did a little searching ...found a suitable photo....is that a weep hole...and should oil drip out if left on a workbench upside down?

Thanks..again

If you had it upside down and it leaked final drive oil out of it, then I would say it is....

Even though as it is not supposed to be upside down, I'd call it a vent hole...

The shop manual refers to it as a breather hole and says...
"If the final drive gear is full of oil (when disassembled) place the case so that the breather hole is on top"

... so, Yes, it'll leak if sitting upside down
