I hope someone can help me. I have a 2004 vulcan 750. If I start my
bike and let it idle for the next hour it will idle at about 1200 rpm. But if
I ride for about 20 minutes, the idle will stay high at about 2100 rpm.

I also have a 2004 VN 750. During assembly, the factory incorrectly routed the choke cable and it was getting pinched when I turned the handlebars, activating the choke. It's possible your bike might have the same problem. The dealer fixed mine under warranty.
