I bought a 2003 VN 750 last year. It backfired on deceleration. I put new pipes on it and it backfired LOUDER on deceleration, quit loud. I pulled loose the rear ais hoses and plugged them as someone suggested and it got better but it is still to loud backfiring. The other suggestion was to remove the entire system, which I would like to do anyway. Can anyone explain the process. After that if the backfiring is still too loud it was suggested that I try different settings with the fuel screw. Comments?
Thanks

I'd try adjusting the air mix screws first since it is zero cost to do so.. This is one of the first things done usually when replacing the exhaust system. Rejetting comes later if the air mix adjustment doesn't solve the popping/ backfiring. Also make sure you check the exhaust system for leaks. I am assuming you did replace the crush gaskets when you replaced the system.

Download 'Coastering your VN750' from our Engine/Exhaust file. Easy to do...

Starman has a good writeup on reducing/eliminating the backfiring in his technical articles:
