The clutch in my 06 is beyond the chattering stage. Almost every time after I start the bike, the clutch will not engage smoothly. The bike will most often lurch forward in an attempt to get moving. The cable is adjusted fine, and only 7100 miles on the odo. Oil had been changed approx 2000 miles ago. I had inspected the clutch plates at around 5k miles and saw nothing wrong. This time I will pull the clutch basket and drill small holes around the inner part of the spline on the basket to allow oil to flow more readily through the clutch plates at startup. After the bike has been running at least 5 min or so will the clutch operate the way it should.

I had a 454LTD that sometimes the clutch would stick, and I had to depress the lever and rock the bike back and forth in gear for it let go. After that it would work fine. I don't know what cuases it.

Pump the clutch lever half a dozen times before you go. Works for me. Gets the oil circulating...

My 750 did the same thing and it really bugged me. It was recommended to me to use Lucas Full Synth Motorcycle Oil 20-50 to fix the problem. At $9 a quart I was not sure to spend the bucks, but I needed to try something.

Do a comeplete oil flush with a case cleaner like GUNK brand, new filter, clean the oil screen... Then refill with full synthetic motorcycle oil. My bro suggested Mobil 1 motorcycle, but that stuff aint cheap so I used Lucas. Royal purple is highlly recommended too.

Worked first time-no clutch problems for 3 months and I will never use dino oil again.

If you do this, let everyone know your results please.

I know I am putting myself at risk for even saying this, but when I first got my bike, I changed the oil out and put synthetic in it (new filter and pulled the screen) and I don't have any idea what the coffee-grinder noise is.

I know I will as soon as I start the bike up now, though... :(

I am running Amsoil motorcycle oil in the bike. I shouldnt have to PUMP the clutch handle a few times before I attempt to move. The clutch should work the way it was designed. Drilling holes in a spiral shape on the clutch basket is a Kawasaki fix. I refuse to bring the bike to a dealer to do the work. This isnt rocket science.

If it's acting that way on Amsoil it does need doctoring. I had the coffee grinder with mine and after putting in Amsoil it was gone in a week. I could make it do it in sub zero weather if the bike was not warmed up enough to run without the choke. You running 10-40 or 20-50?
