: Good ride with my son

Had a good ride today with my youngest son. He will be 9 in Feb. My daughter is gone with family to MI and the other son had gone to the movies with a friend. So my youngest was left at home with dad, again. I never thought he liked riding that much, but I really wanted to ride today. First good day after the freezing rain/sleet/snow last week. He came to me and asked what we were going to do for lunch. I asked him if he wanted to ride the bike somewhere and get something to eat. He face lit up like a 200w light bulb. So I fire up the bike (first time in 2+ weeks, but has been on tender and purred at the first touch) we get our gear on and head out. Roads are still kinda wet and nasty from the melt off but not too bad. Get about 40 miles in and stop for lunch. As we're eating I ask him if he wants to head straight home or ride some more... He says he wants to ride more...just like my daughter did a few weeks ago...So we head out and get about another 40 miles in before the 10mph winds with 20mph gust just aren't that fun anymore. After we get back he helps me wash all the road grime off the bike, fuel it up and park her back. Although it was a fairly short ride I think he enjoyed it and our time together...I know I did. I am truly lucky and glad I have these times to realize it.

I think it is these kind of rides and memories we cherish the most. The one that sticks in my head is when I tool a long lunch this spring and picked my daughter up at school mid day and took her for a ride and long lunch. It was right in the middle of a very bad time for her... and us.. We did this several times this spring, and I think it helped us both. I'll remember it forever..

Cherish the times now Fallguy, they grow up too quick..

Promise?

I joke. I already cringe at the idea when they no longer need Daddy and then eventually leave home. I've got about 12-15 years before the youngest leaves. I'm not comfortable with taking her yet on the back of the Vulcan but I do ride her on the front of the Burgman. She loves that but I fear the police would have something to say about it. My oldest daughter isn't as excited about riding the cycle since...The Incident. I laid it down in some loose rocks in the drive with her on the back. No harm and she still rides with me but she always wants on after we get out of the drive and off before we go in.

Great stories guys and Spring is right around the corner!
