I'm just currious how many of you change your own tires. We're all taking things apart and working / modding our bikes, but how many do tires?
Sorry for the confusion. It's my first time Polling:itchy-scr

I have done tires on a bike before, my last set I payed to have done.
I would like to try to do my next set with the aide of the tools at my work.

Well, I voted yes, but haven't done it on the Vulcan yet.
I have one of those manual tire changing machines from Harbor Freight, with the motorcycle tire adaptor.
I've changed my dirtbike tires enough times to have more than paid for it, as well as the tires on my truck several time.
I was going to use it on the Vulcan this year when I did the spline lube, but wasn't thinkin' when I took the back end apart, and had the bike jacked up too close to the changer to use it, so I just took it to the shop.
I'm definitely using it when the front tire needs changed though. Probably the end of this year.

Changing bike tires with standard tire spoons takes a good bit of patience. Ya gotta go a little bit at a time, otherwise you just end up trying to force more tire around the rim than the tire can stretch.

Voted yes, but with a twist.

I take the wheels off and roll them into the dealer. They charge $ 20/wheel to remove the old tire, mount & balance news ones I bring, and dispose of old tires.

Money well spent in my opinion.

2 dealers around me are charging $35-$40 a wheel. & thats if I take the wheel in. $20 I would do. At 35 and up I feel like I'm being ripped off! Cripes, tire shops charge 5 to 10 to do a car tire. Is there something horribly difficult to a bike tire? I would think it would be about the same!

I'd say it is a little more difficult, but not that much! The first few times ya try to change a bike tire, it's tricky. Once ya get the hang of it, it's not so bad. And when ya got the equipment that a bike shop has, it should be a piece of cake!

There's a local shop that has great prices on tires (5% above cost) $10 for mount - balance - and disposal if you bring in your wheel and purchase the tire at their shop. They use it as bait to get people into the store.

I voted no; however, I can change my own tires but choose not to. I buy the tire at the shop and they put it on and balance it. Don't want to remember what I paid. PERTY penny for sure though. Dunlops 491 white letters.
