Hey all! I'm coming up to sept. quickly. And I'll be taking my training course soon. I'm sure I've taught myself all kinds bad already but I'm looking forward to the course. And that leads me to my question. To practice the "BOX" what would you guess the dimensions to be? And secondly how far apart would you guess the slolom cones to be. These 2 things I here alot of people talk about and I want to try to practice them, For lifes little Curve Balls!
Thanks to all who help me here:)

In Illinois there is a book you can get from the DMV and it gives you the dementions.
I don't have one now but it was in the back.

I'm pretty sure 'The Box' that I took the skills test in was just about 2 average parking spaces in size.
And I think for the cone weave, the cones were about the distance of, again, 2 parking spaces wide.

I found this online, but now sure how it applies to all states (it was for Illinois)...

the dimensions are 20' by 60' for the "solid" box, with an extra 4' of width used the first time students do it

Thanks, That gives me an Idea. Coincidentally 2 parking spaces is what I've been practicing in. I figured if I could turn in that small of space I'd be all right. The slolom I haven't tried anything yet. As I didn't have anything to base off of. Thanks Guys!

Ironicly 2 parking spaces is what I've been practicing in.

Not really ironic, but that's the pedant in me talking.

More importantly:

Found this useful for parking lot practice, and yeah, 2x2 parking spots seems to be a good guesstimate.

Cones are a breeze, strangely enough it was the straight stop that caused me problems. Are you riding your Vulcan in the box? Little 250s were much easier!

Actually in ohio you can't take the course (Not the dmv exam) with anything larger than a 500. And if you take your own bike (They provide the ride) it has to then be approved.

The cones (slalom's) are easy. Just remember never to actually look at them when going through. You will see them in you peripheral vision, so always look beyond them, about 100' or more. You can practice them by cutting tennis balls in half, and placing them on an open and unoccupied parking lot, or better yet, just go to the Motor Vehicle Bureau parking lot. Here in De, they have all the marks and boxes painted in blue.
