What a truly wonderful class. Loads of good practical knowledge. lots of good skills. Whether you pass or not isn't really the issue here, its the experience that matters. I was a little to free flowing with leaning I think, as I probably wore a couple of holes in that pretty chrome dresser bar on the front of that brand new little rebel 250 (40 miles on the clock), he he..........they really didn't frown upon it though....one coach waved his finger with a grin on his face like maybe I should not do that, but the other instructor drug as well on one of the demonstrations.......and they couldn't say anything else then, he he, and the one that did it gave me a compliment, as he said when my wife was mentioning my "showing off", he said, that just lets us know you know how to lean the bike......then I was like "yea!" "See...." anyway, it was the highlight of my experience....as I don't usually scrape around all over on my Vulcan......(but I was more daring....It wasn't my bike.....and it was practice.....unfortunately it rubbed off into my regular riding style for the remainder of the class, as I even drug around the curve on the test........they just waved me on that I successfully completed that one and I parked for the others to finish (you could go again if need be).......the "box" I wasn't so lucky in...I got stage fright and had to put my foot down once.....practiced for that one even before the class, in open parking lots, I had it down, or so I thought....I could do it almost every practice...but when they were studying me....I couldn't do it....figures.....and the simulated panic stop......well had to do that one twice...said I anticipated it....couldn't figure out how not to, lol........my brain just couldn't be overrode that well....he he.

we had "jekyl" and "Hyde" for coaches it seemed
(They were really nice and did a great job, I am only referring to the style of what was expected)....on the right during practice the man on the right side, he would say try it a little slower, then the man on the left side..."try a little faster next time".....he he......I wonder if they were radioing back and forth messing with me or something.......but it all helped me be prepared for every situation, or at least more prepared......

the classwork was limited, and we went through the book quickly each evening. I was worried if I was remembering those acronyms and terms.

Snort was dong fine as I could tell, but she never got the box down, so I said, best to run out and not put your foot down.... or if you put your foot down, then don't run out....(putting my foot in mouth ere) then as my turn came, I couldn't do it anymore, lol. She was being very studious in the book highlighting and such. I couldn't keep up, so I just decided I would read her notes at home. I briefly did read them to her at bedtime, and we fell asleep during it......

I read the rest on the way there this morning. They would not even tell us if we passed the skills test yet, so we went for final studying and for the written test. I did think I did ok on this and we went outside for more waiting. they had an envelope on every place, and they only difference was some had two certificates, and others just one.

I still am glad to take the class even though I missed a few on the written test and had some blunders on the course. It was a good experience for Snort as well. She is even smiling in the picture....She and I say thanks to all for the support on this class we took! Without the group, it wouldn't have been possible for us to take it. Apparently we did fine because we had both certificates in our envelopes......yes.....good deal (p a s s e d). I intend to take the advanced course next year.
Snort and I thank everyone who made this possible, and to the group for support as well.

So you as an experienced rider tooled around in a beginner's course? Heh heh heh? Would love to do that ;), scraping the pegs in a class where most folks were just worried about not dropping a 250!

Actually in NJ, it seems they pay pretty well to be an instructor with relatively little commitment required (teach 3 weekends a season), so I applied to see if they'd want me for teaching a beginner course. I coached soccer for 7 years, this would be a step-up & probably a lot more fun :) Now when I took the ERC we had a NYC motorcycle cop dragging his fully dressed Harley 'round the lot - damn that man could ride!

Yes, we took it for the safety aspect of it, even though we passed the state test around the parking lot, lol, I wanted to further my safety by taking the class. concidering the erc class next. It was a bit fun I have to admit to go dragging around the course where the others except a couple were stiff arming them.

I remember the feeling, worrying about leanting over too far, lol.

I had my own run-in with counter steering issues when I headed down my road for my first highway voyage involving a curve, lol.....wonder why this darn thing wont turn!!!!! ditch coming closer, closer, closer, finally I broke and in desperation turned the wrong way and yes! away I rode! whew!

anyway, I do reccomend anyone take it that has not, as they may have some tips that you could find useful.
There were a couple of other experienced riders there, one motorcycle racer, and another taking the class to support his wife, who has never rode.

all in all a good experience for me and wife.

Hey guy's, way to go!!!
Make sure you take the Advanced Riders Course. Its even more fun, and you get to use your own bike. Then we'll see how much metel you leave on the asphalt.
I took ADC last year for free, as our local police force had gotten some grant money. Plan to retake it every year if they keep paying for it.
The "cop" involved told us that in our area they believe that at least a third of the bikers on the road don't even have a motorcycle indorsement, let alone rider training.

99 750 with 61000(put on 40000 in the last three years). Not a scratch, and I plan to keep it that way.
