I thought it was a great site, powered with different BB software, also cheaper.

Don't be doing that **SMACK** Don't get wishywashy on us.

I strongly recommend you forget about changing software at this point. Techies, and I'm one of them are a managers worst nightmare for this reason. Like kids in a candy store. You made a recommendation, I investigated it and verified it was a good choice, and a very powerful tool, and bulletin discussion boards verified that vBulletin was one of the best if not the best fourm software available. I don't even recall that other software being mentioned in the reviews.

I agree the other site, is good, but I also think a large part of that is it's orgainzation, which we can emulate. vBulletion gives us a lot of other functions to make that organization even better (like being able to collapse the sub categories) changing views from linear to threaded (which I see the other software can do as well)

But, when I tried to use the other site, I got several errors like this:

Could not connect to database ventadm_discus;host=mysql2.ixwebhosting.com.

Error message is: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mysql2.ixwebhosting.com' (113). Argument is 1.

Please contact Venturer Board of Directors if this problem persists.

It may be cheaper but apparently not as reliable, and we need reliable for this forum.

So, Rob, sorry if this message seems turse, but you've hit a nerve with me. Please stick to the orginal plan or make a darn good case as to why a change of recommended software is warrented at this point in the game.

Chris

I agree, I like the forum organization at the blue level, I think it is very well done
.
The subforums under that are pretty good too. But I think we would need to change the technical sub forums. May I suggest that the technical sub forums be broken into sections that mimic the Kawasaki technical manual? That is the most logical breakdown that I can think of for that section and it makes it easy for us to reference manual sections, etc..

I think the Misc section is pretty close to what we need, with some minor modifications..

I'd say it is a very good starting point.

Rob,

You know what? I was out of line here. You are the one doing the majority of the work. I don't see any good reason to change from vBulletin to anything else, BUT, you are the one doing the work and the one that has taken upon himself to make it work, not me. I'll certainly help you any way I can, but it is your call as to how best get the job done. The other site you pointed to as a good example is organized well, but don't confuse presentation with functionality of the tool, that is all I'm suggesting. vBulletion has a lot of extra features.

Sorry again. It's been a long week of 12 hour days dealing with people that can't figure out how to poop or get off the pot, know what I mean?

How bout I just smack him for ya? Will that make ya feel better? I know I will.
I do have to agree.. we went before the group with purposed software and one that from what I see will suit our needs very well.
Of course as with any software package, only time in the hands of the actual user will determine that.
When is comes to software, there are some 'good and cheap' packages out there, however, you don't want them to act good and cheap or have good and cheap management capabilities.
