My vulcan is trying to jump out of second gear. It sounds like it is trying to go back into neutral. It does it on heavy throttle or light throttle. I usually try to avoid second gear. Any suggestions? If I have to split the case I'll just run it the way it is. I think its time for a newer model. Mike '89 vn 750

When ya say.... "Like it's trying to go back into neutral" ....do you mean it sounds like the bike is revving up, but not going any faster?

Good question. Does it jump out of gear, or just seem like it's raising in rpms but not accelerating?

The engine revs it catches runs a little then the engine revs etc etc etc. If you are thinking clutch , why only second? The bike runs great other than this problem. I have 1100 miles on it this season already.

Yep, I was thinking clutch. But you're right, why only in second gear?
I've never been into the tranny on the bike, so I can't be of much help otherwise.
I can point ya to the parts fiche of the transmission though, although I'm guessing you're already familiar with Ron Ayers.....
Check it out HERE (http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/400_0438/transmission/transmission.cfm?man=ka&groupid=10760&parent=10700).
