Hmmm...not a rousing response, huh? I could use a hook-up, too. I'm going to be out in Vegas for the bike auction in January (the 11th-13th, I think?), and my mother's husband wants me to ride with him. He's 77 years old and purchased a new trike last year after a cardiac scare. It's given him a new lease on life. He rides to the library several times a week, and his max speed is now 45 mph. Alas, for our Sunday ride (on the 13th), he's decided to rent an HD for me - a Sportster XL1200, which is about 500cc more than I'm used to. I'm looking for anyone out there who has anything smaller - even a Rebel (45 mph top-end. Really.) - that I could rent for the day. bcjoker, have you found anyone out there yet? Know any shops I could call that might rent me a humane-sized moto? If so, please shoot me a pm or an email - in this case (as in most), it's really not about size. :)

Don't worry Cindy the 1200 Sportster is way underpowerd, you will feel slow compaired to our 750's

LOL
All bark and no bite, huh?

I called the rental place yesterday and they apparently also have Shadow 750s and Nighthawks (the 250 version). I'll find something that's more appropriate for a slow amble about town.

I took out a Shadow 750 in California through San Fran, not a bad bike but the pegs were low and I was dragging pegs all over.
Here are picts of that ride.

The bike was very close to a VN 750 just a little lower to the ground.

What great pics! I drove (car) the same route a couple of years ago - was out in SF for a Medicare study and did a little sightseeing while I was there. Gorgeous scenary.

Two questions:
1. How come there's no picture of you riding down Lombard Street? :)
2. THe Shadow is shaft-driven??

I was riding alone at the time I rode down Lombard.
The Shadow is Shaft yes, I rented a bike when I was there and man it was fun riding over the Golden gate bridge.

The Sportster 1200 will be an education for you. You will be riding that uncomfortable piece of shyte and wondering how HD managed to make such a slow brick out of a 1200cc engine and still make the damn thing feel smaller then your VN750. About the only thing worse then the 1200 Sportster is the 883 Sportster. Horrible bike...

You should have no problem with the 1200 HD as soon as you get accustomed to the heavy handed clutch, the CLUNK when you go from 1st to 2nd and the fact that you will feel like a monster on a clown bike. The bike really feels small compared to your VN750. The turn signals will throw you for a loop as I could never figure out why HD put one switch on each side but hey, I've gotten accustomed to what the rest of the world does...

Now, if you want a pleasurable experience that you will rave about, get a Fatboy or a soft-tail. They are nice bikes and not too heavy. They still feel smaller then my Nomad...

Hi Death, welcome to the group. I used to live in North Vegas as well, envy you today being where I now live its wet as hell. Sure do miss the weather in Vegas. Wife and I do enjoy flying there for a day or two every other month or so just to get some sun shine on our skin again. Anyways, make sure you read thru the Versus, a ton of excellant info concerning our 750's that you'll want to know.

I am planning on leaving Las Vegas on Fri 9/23/11 going to Tonopah spending the night, Riding to Ely on Saturday(168 miles NO GAS), Staying there Saturday night, Coming back to Vegas on Sunday. Motels are about $40 night in both places. 215 miles vegas to Tonopah, 250 miles Ely to Vegas. Hwy 6 is supposed to be lonely but good ride. Anyone interested????
