A buddy of mine and I are going to be doing an Iron Butt ride next weekend. May 5th early in the AM we will set out from my house. We will then ride to Savanah GA, then through Atlanta, and finally stopping In Cherokee NC for the night. If we make that run within 24 hrs we will qualify for a Saddle Sore 1K. The next morning, we will attempt to ride straight home. If we make that within 36 hrs of leaving my house we will qualify for a Bun Burner 1.5k. I've been putting alot of saddle time in. I've made runs as far as 700 miles in one day before. I've looked over the Iron Butt assoc web site and feel we have made the proper preparations. As long as we don't run into any major problems I believe we have what it takes. If there is anyone down near Cherokee NC that would like to BS with us on the overnight it would be great to say hi. It would also be a great help to have someone down there as a witness for our arrival or departure. Anyone have recomendations for as to which campsite to use, there seem to be 4 or 5. We will be tent camping if you hadn't guessed.

Sure hope you have replaced your OEM seat or you're really going to have an Iron Butt by the time you're done. :)

You are running through Atlanta on an Iron Butt Run??
What's your approximate time for hitting the Atlanta area? Also check your route for possible construction zones. Atlanta traffic and construction can chomp away at your hours plus sitting in traffic after several hundred miles can take it's toll on the rider. Skirting around Atlanta might be best.
Good luck and be sure and keep your log and receipts (put all the Iron Butt stuff in one large ziplock bag)
IBA has forms you can print off for logs, starting and ending witnesses etc.

I've got a Corbin Saddle, printed all the forms and instructins, read over all the recomendations, we're going to be going early saturday morning. I don't think Atlanta traffic should be TOO bad on saturday. The ride home sunday is going to be an option, well really the whole thing is still optional. Just going to see if we can do it. Thanks for all the well wishing. I'll post before leaving.

hey foxhound I have ridden to cherokee many times there is a great campground just outside all the hustle and bustle of the shopping area, called jellystone. Look them up on there website they are biker friendly and have tent camping as well as cabins. Good luck on your trip

Kickstand Lodge is owned and run by a VROC member. She and her husband started the KSL a few years ago and have really turned it into something special for bikers. Fred passed away the first of this year but Mo continues to operate KSL. Good people and definitely biker friendly.
