Has anyone shaved the ears and replaced with K&N. I can not get my filters to fit right. Any suggestions are welcomed.

I've got K&Ns in my ears. They fit in just fine. Did you get the right filters?

I don't have the ears anymore. Shaved em off.

did you get the tapered ones? That's what I used. I did have to put a spacer under the rear fuel tank mount to bring it up a little, but other than that they fit ok.

Okay, I feel stoooooopid now. You have done a shave and replaced the whole filter assembly. I just put replacement K&Ns in my filter boxes.

Mike do you have any pics? Don't feel stupid Foxhound. I did not say that I put the tapered ones on.

Nope. My wife plucks my ears with a tweezers! No pics to share, though... ;)

What is the right K&N filter size to fit in the stock ears? I bought a used 750 recently, and it hasn't been maintained in a while. Would like to upgrade as I give it a little tune up, if I can. Always had success with K&N filters in the past.

I just bought the 54mm oval K&N pods for my bike. I'll let you know tomorrow if I have any problems

I've got K&N tapered pod filters on my '86.
Like Mike, I had to raise the tank slightly with a spacer to save them from contacting the underside as well.
I also clamped the rubber boots over the small tabs on the carb intake, as I've had the right side filter fall off while riding once. It seems to hold the filters in place a lot firmer.

I like the idea of protecting the K&N resusable filters inside the ear boxes.
What is the cleaning procedure for the K&Ns like?

Found a fairly good deal on the K&N's at Motorcycle Accessory's Warehouse or
http://www.mawonline.com/

51.95 + 9.81 s&h, it's a closeout.. probably because the bike is no longer being built?

K&N sells cleaning and re-oil kits for thier filters. Spray the filter with the cleaner and then let it set a few and then run water through it ( backwards to the air flow direction ) repeat until clean. let it dry over night , DO NOT use compressed air to blow it dry... that will move/rip filter material within screen and ruin filter, then re-oil it the next day and re-install. Ready to ride again!

Thanks 95VN750, sounds quick and easy and not very messy.
