Vulcan 750s are a perfect first bike in my opinion. They are forgiving, not too big, and has enough power to stay with you even after you gain confidence. As long as the bike was well maintained you should have few if any problems. Should you run into any problems with it, I don't think you will find any better resource than this forum. I don't think any other bike has such a great forum. Whatever you end up purchasing, enjoy riding, and ride safe.

The good parts, Fuel gague, liquid cooled, shaft drive, dual disk brakes, just to name a few.
Down sides, some have had problems with the stator/electrical charging, and not lubed driveshaft splines.

The Splines it easy to do, just remove the tire and the final drive and check the splines to make sure they are lubed. Takes about 2 hours if you take your time. I just did mine in about 45 minuits but I am a mechanic by trade so I can do things a little quicker.
The Stator is more ov a problem if it goes. You have to remove the motor to replace it. As long as you keep your oil changed and don't overload the electrical system you can reduce the chances.
Hope this helps.

Amy, it's a great first bike, and also a long term bike for most of us. You will probably love the bike so much, you'll decide to keep it for life. I second the statement above about having this forum as a support group for the bike. It really makes the value of the bike go up dramatically.
Yes there are some issues with the bike, as with all bikes, but don't let them scare you. In fact, the spline issue is a small percentage of bikes, and usually on newer bikes. Your 99 is probably ok in that respect, although on older bikes, it has been a maintenance schedule issue, not necessarily a "left the factory with dry splines" issue, so the sooner you check and re-lube the better. Like the splines, the stator issue is also a small percentage of the bikes sold, and there are circumstances that probably could have effected those bikes, like slow, stop and go riding in very hot temps, letting the bike idle too long, adding too many electrical add ons, running with a less than adequate battery, and not religiously changing the oil. These things can help prevent the stator failure problems, as well as relocating the regulator from under the battery box to a cooler location.
But, you'll find all the help you need to check these things, do any modifications and really enjoy your ride, here on the forum. We're all here to help! Good luck and ride safe!

The problem my wife has with mine is that it's a little to heavy and has a higher center of gravity than her 650V-Star.

That being said I'm like most of the people on here....... VN750 for life!

Hi Amyj, pleased to meet ya!
I am a female VN rider too and wouldnt want any other bike. I am short in the leg but this bike is perfect for me. I love the power and style and she sounds great in built up areas. I have ridden many bikes but this is my fave. I had an old one but I have just purchased a newer one and what a difference. I thought the old one was good but this new one is even better, smoother and more powerful. Cant wait for the summer.:D
Hope you find a good one and enjoy it as much as I do.

Hi Amy and welcome. And, I'll agree with what's already been posted, it's a great bike for anyone, and an excellant first bike.

Welcome! I was going to post about the height thing, too, but Wildcatter made the point well. These are excellent bikes - easy to handle, easy to work on, and enough power for any situation (the other evening, I got onto the highway in 4th gear, doing 65mph (<5000rpm) - no sweat). The tricky thing about buying a motorcycle (I've learned) is that you have to find one that "fits" you - I had a VUlcan 800 before the 750, and in all appearances, it was a perfect bike. But it was balanced all wrong for me, and the front tire size (Classic, so wider) really messed me up in turns. The 750, by comparison, handles like a breeze.

I'm guessing you saw the bike yesterday....how'd it go??!?!??
