I have been having problems with my battery losing its charge when I am riding. I have been fearing I would need a new stator. I had done some initial tests on the stator and hadn't found anything wrong. I had decided to relocate the R/R and found that it had a lot of corrosion. After cleaning it up I still had problems. I finally used the Electrex troubleshooting guide and found that it was my R/R that is bad. Phew, means I will be back on the road real quick.
I must say that my R/R is a mess. Besided the corrosion. I found that the plastic around the plug had carbonized. This was mainly on the side against the battery case and not the side near where the exhaust crosses over (slip-on, no goats belly). Makes me glad I fused the stator wires. Anyway, I am very happy and getting ready to order a new Electrex R/R.

Doing happy dance.

Good deal Mike! Glad it wasn't anything more than that.

That sure is better than a full engine pull. I was tired just from reading about all the trouble that Chris went through with his recently.

Having done the stator thingy in the last 3mos, I can honestly say that it was/is a lot less torment than what RB went thru....if everything goes OK! A major PITA, no doubt...check here in the 'Electric' folder for my stator replacement notes. It's a couple of months old, but it more/less documents what I went thru....

*laugh*. A lot of my torment was self induced from never having done this type of job before in any form and being a complete mechmo about some aspects of it. Secondly, while I did read some parts of the forum first, I did not read all related parts first. But thanks to the help of some individuals I got past the rough spots and got the job done. Bike is running great.

..snip...is a lot less torment than what RB went thru........
