Just got a 93 vulkan for the better half. Bought it, went 200 plus miles and rode it home in 34 degree weather. Great bike. I can see why so many like the bike.

Thanks for the welcome. This bike has almost 24000 miles on it. It rides very well and I was pleasantly surprised on how well the bike performed on the 200 mile trip back to the house. We have spent a couple of hours this week end with her practicing in the large parking lot near us. This is her first cruiser. She has been riding a Silverwing for two years. I believe she is hooked. The Wing will have to go.
Thanks again,
Dave

Hey there Dave, and welcome to the group. :motorcycl

What all kind of bikes have ya had? The Vulcan is my first streetbike. I've had it about 5-6 years, but before I got that, I had been dirtriding for the past 15 or so years.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions. Plenty of Vulcan Know How here to go around !! :smiley_th

Thanks to all for the warm welcomes. I have a VTX 1300 and my wife has the Silverwing. I have had Hondas in the past. Not a loyalty thing it just worked out that way. Trail 90(1967), 350CB(1969), 360, 450 chopper, mid-80's Shadow. There was a dirt bike somewhere in there.
This Vulcan is fast and very comfortable. It has come up with a bug. While teaching my wife to ride and shift(she is doing great) we stopped and parked in neutral. Now it will not come out of neutral. I checked the forum and I am going to tackle opening up the shifter mechanism. The clutch was strong and had no slip at all. I do not think it is something serious.
Look to putting a lot of miles on the Vulcan.

We live in Lexington South Carolina. Been here about 8 months. Originally from the upstate but spend the last 7 years in Jersey.(January is a cold month up there) My wife and I ride about 3000 miles a year together and I ride another 5 or 6 thou.

I know you must be moving to shift to 2nd (positive nuetral finder) but I don't recall any thing in the gearbox that would prevent going into 1st. Try moving the bike forward & back, and try moving the shifter in both directions. Was the motor running when you were trying to put it in gear?

Bike will only shift into first or neutral when stopped. Hope that is the problem.
Welcome to the forum!

The bike was sitting idleing and we started to go again and it would not go into 1st or 2nd. Only neutral. I plan on taking a day and working on it. It ran fine until this happen. Just will not come out of neutral. I have never worked on a Kawi before, but have had plenty of experience on the old Hondas and pre-70's vw bugs. It has been about 25 years but it should be fun getting greasey again. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions just bing 'um on.
Thanks

Hmm, does the shift lever move in & out an excessive amount (more than about 1/2 inch)?

Shift lever does move in or out more than 1/8th inch. It feels like nothing is there. I am suspecting a broken linkage.
