Welcome to the site. Great bunch of people here, all eager to help, if needed.
Any mods done to your '04, or is it stock?

Read up on the maintenence in the Vulcan Verses, especially the rear splines !

Would want to get a MF AGM style battery as soon as possible if yours has a wet cell type.

Wow, we're growing pretty fast! Glad to have you aboard. Yep, your 04 is in the years where the splines might have left the factory dry so you'll want to check them asap. Glad you joined us. Enjoy the site and all the new friends here!

Welcome aboard. There are some great people here and their knowlege level is phenominal!!
BTW, do check the rear drive splines soon. It's a 2 hour job that will save you about $1000+ in repairs if you do it in time. Fergy has a most excellent pictorial and write up that will guide you step by step on how to do it. The hardest part is getting up the courage if you have not done anything mechanical before. It is well worth the effort!!!

My Vulcan was my first streetbike I got also. It's a great bike for the novice, or seasoned rider as well.
Spent all my two wheeled time before that on dirtbikes (and bicycles before that)

And I'll ditto what's already been said about the splines.
