What is the best way to get the bugs off my leather jacket? Is it ok to just use a damp cloth? I need to get rid of all those guts.

Go for a fast ride in the rain - works for me

Seriously, I don't know. I would imagine a damp cloth or using a leather cleaner would work. I don't do leather, other than my gloves/boots, I use textiles myself.

I have used the same pledge to clean my windshield on my leather. Shines and cleans. Smells lemony fresh too

Yes, just a damp cloth will do just fine. If the bugs are really stuck hard, you can add just a touch of liquid soap. Test it somewhere inconspicuous on the jacket first so you know it won't cause the dye to bleed.

I dont know what is oficially reccomended, but I have used a damp rag on my chaps with no ill effects so far. I wouldnt think water should hurt, if so, what happens when you get out in a rain sometime?

Neats Foot oil should not be used to clean leather..it can actualy seal in dirt..use a damp rag or a damp rag with a bit of sddle soap. Use mink oil to help waterproof the leather after it dries..

True Knifemaker. but,i have used neatfoot oil for many, many years on leather. it is great for hard leather shoes too . with that being said. with respect. i do not agree with you not to use neatsfoot oil on leather. i have been using it on my leather motorcycle jacket for many years. never once seen a problem . mink oil is good too though . i would not use any soap products on leather. it could fade the leather . Murphy's oil soap i think would be safe.

I'm a big fan of Mink oil as a protectant. It helps you keep things clean with that damp cloth without hurting the leather when you do so.

I think the key here is.. Neats Foot should not be used to CLEAN leather, but it is fantastic for treating leather and keeping it soft and pliable.

I never said not to use Neats Foot oil on leather...the question was about cleaning leather. Neats Foot oil lubricates and softens leather..it is not a cleaner. Saddle Soap is made for leather..it is much like Murphys Oil soap..but doesn't leave residue..And wiith respect..I have used saddle soap to clean leather..mink oil to protect it..and neats foot oil to soften. I also would not use Neats Foot oil on my leather jacket and pants.."Soft" leather sticks..properly maintained leather slides...If I fall I want to slide...not stick...So there...lol...I'll say it now....don't use Neats Foot Oil on your leather jacket...UNLESS in got drenched ad dried stiff. Yes it's great on Italian loafers..and old belts , wallets, etc that are in danger of cracking.
The current crop of silicon based cleaners and polishes work fine also..but if you got bug goo on your leather riding jacket.. a damp cloth or a damp cloth with a bit of saddle soap is what you should use.

The damp cloth worked fine, until I went riding again. I think the same ones came right back! I think they like me!

sometimes I think we draw straws to see who rides lead at night between me and my wife, as the lead seems to part the sea of bugs somewhat for the follower, in single file.

I didn't really start riding much until October. Didn't think much about bugs until Spring hit. Then I reallllly started appreciating my full face helmet. Even with a wind shield, I have gotten a couple of bugs with a big enough splat to cause me to want to pull over to wipe it off so it wouldn't obstruct my vision.

I shudder to think what I would have done if it had hit me in the face.

So far I've just used a damp cloth on my jacket and chaps to get rid of 'bug smacks'. I don't have as much to clean off of my jacket now that I'm using a decent windshield. I'm wondering now if the neetsfoot oil might be a good idea to use once in a while to keep the leather softer?

Neetsfoot Oil is definitely one to keep leather soft. You can usually find it in he sporting goods department right by the baseball and softball gloves. It keeps them soft and pliable.
