Got to meet Uncle Gomer (Vince Hancock) today. Had lunch with him
and his lovely family at Cracker Barrel in the mighty metropolis of
Pooler GA. Neal "Ratty" Cobb was also in attendance. The food was
good but the company and time spent with new friends was better.
Vince says howdy, er Uncle Gomer says hey to you and yours and to
all on the way to Fl for vacation.
Neal and I were on our 750s of course so we swapped tales and
compared mods with Vince. Just seeing our 2 bikes together
(both '03s) made me think of KL and how cool it would be to see all
those 750's together.
While at lunch we had a brief downpour. Haven't heard from Neal.
He had a 30 odd mile ride home amid wicked looking clouds. Hope he
made it home unscathed.

P.S. Vince 'tried' to take my stock seat and Protac but alas I beat
him off with a 2x4 laying nearby. Sorry Vince, better luck next
time! <LOL>

I really enjoyed today's special lunch with Stargazer, Uncle Gomer and his nice family. As
Phil said, "the food was good, but not as good as the company." After our meal, we took a
few pictures. Phil and I had parked our two sister 2003 750's side by side, and we all
enjoyed comparing modifications. It's rough being compared to Phil's Lobo. He has done
such a fine job with his additions, but the HellBat is slowly coming into her own, too. BTW,
Knifemaker, everyone liked your floorboards. All too soon it was time for Uncle Gomer and
his family to be on their way to Florida, and for Stargazer and I to brave the elements on
our way home.

The weather was truly weird today, with spasmodic rain and wind. It actually looked pretty
good when I left home this morning, but I was in and out of rain most of the day.
Fortunately, the worst weather occurred while we were in the local Cracker Barrel.

I am in the midst of a change in windshields, and I rode on I-95 at 70-80 mph. Quite
different from having the protection of even the small V-Force windshield that I have been
using. I'm switching to a Memphis Shades, probably the 17" Fats model. Has anybody had
experience with these windshields?

On the way home, I was whizzing south on I-95 when my motor began to miss, then stop.
I coasted to the emergency lane, and tried to restart the engine. No luck. It was only then
that I noticed that the gas gauge was sitting quite comfortably on EMPTY. What a dummie!
Our 750's are truly remarkable, but they do require fuel. I looked at the gas gauge prior to
leaving home and had about 1/4 tank. "Guess I'll need gas on the way home," I thought. I
didn't realize that I would need fuel quite so early in my trip. I flipped to reserve, she
started quickly, and I topped off the tank at the first opportunity.

The rest of the ride was uneventful. Traffic was pretty dense in a few locations, but I
enjoyed being on the road, even with the rain, wind, and traffic.

It was good to make new friends and to see Phil again. I am still trying to decide if I can
get to KL this month. Today's fellowship made the trip much more tempting. I'll have to
decide by mid-week.

Today proved that almost any day can be a good day to ride.

Everyone ride safe,

Ratty
